I heard the Middlesboro School Board ONCE AGAIN hired another out of town person for either principal or asst. principal at the Middle School. Is this true? If so, WHY DR. COOK??? WHY? We have laid off local people and hire out of town people. When will this insanity ever end??

When the people of bell county and Middlesboro wake up and see what is going on then, maybe you will see better results. Bad attendence, missed work, tardiness, tons of excuses and the biggest of all, the graduation ratio. Only the qualified people get the job and the others complain about it!

This city and county are very insulated culturally. Suspicious of outsiders, placing high value on sameness and comformity, widespread nepotism, all that and more have made this a stagnant, dead-end community. You can be dumber than a coal bucket, have no ideas to offer whatsoever, have no real management skills and little work ethic, but if you come from the "right" Bell County family you're a shoe-in for some of the best jobs to be had around here. That will have to change if this county and city ever hope to turn things around.

His name is Terry Bradley and is related to someone that works at central office. The best part is his history. Google his name "Terry Bradley East Franklin Middles School". Then you will understand why hes moving to Middlesboro.

Joshua, I agree with you completely! Our community wants to remain a dead-end community and bring in no outsiders for help. What the heck?

Does "isolated culturally" mean we need the jobs offered to locals just so the local economy will flourish? We have so few jobs at least they would have the good sense to offer them locally just for the well being of the community.

East Franklin principal suspended
By Jessica Lipscomb

reporter@thefranklinpress.com

On Friday, school administration removed East Franklin Elementary Principal Terry Bradley and replaced him with an interim principal.

Larry Brooks, former principal at Cowee Elementary, was listed as principal on the Macon County Schools’ website as of Tuesday morning. Superintendent Dan Brigman said Brooks started as interim principal on Monday, but declined further comment on the reason for the change.

Reached by phone, Bradley also said he did not want to comment. Brooks did not return a message left to his school voicemail.

School board member Gary Shields confirmed that Bradley has been suspended with pay.

So we hire this person over other qualified local applicants. We need to get rid of the school board. I don't know if we can wait until election time.

Ms. Edwardson, your name is written all over these posts. Let it go. The Bradley guy is NOT related to anyone on the board or in the system. All the "evidence" you keep presenting is nothing incriminating in the least. Your agenda is obvious and the people who are trying to be movers and shakers are shortly going to be exposed for what they are. You and your group don't have the best interests of the kids, it is about a shift of power for the lot of you and it can all be proven. Wait, it WILL be proven at a board meeting. I personally have had it with your ulterior motives, Ms. Edwardson. You may have the Daily News on your side and with all due respect to them, you are wrong.

Ms. Edwardson??? Man you are way off base. I am a parent who has seen our system steadly go downhill in the past 2 years. It's not about power or politics. It is about the kids and our little town.

School board didn't hire him. Site base does that. Why does everybody here think the school board hires? They only can hire the superintendent. State took those powers away years ago.

You know what bothers me, another job of some one in the school system could have been saved if they had hired Dr.Maxwell. He is obviously qualified, having a doctorate and all. He teaches college, so I think he could handle middle school. He has never been under investigation, even if the guy has done nothing, you can't ignore the facts that they had just cause to open one. The site base does hire, but if you think Dr.Cook and the board has no input you are sadly mistaken. If we don't start trying to help people right here in our town everyone will have to leave to further their career. They could have even hired Ms.Arnett and not given it to someone out of town. It is obvious they think people here are not good enough.

You mean the board doesn't even have to approve the hire?

I am told Dr. Cook has a vote on each site base and therefore uses threats against some of the teachers if they don't vote her way. I know one teacher who resigned site base because she was threatened with her job if she didn't vote the way Cook wanted her to vote.
