Hello all,

I am James McCormick II of New Haven, WV Candidate for the 13th District House of Delegates. I am looking at issues that effect residents of Mason, Jackson and Putnam County.

I see many political columns and listen to politicians saying what they will and will not do etc. But few if any ask people what they want. I would like to hear what you think, tell me what it is that is important to you and what you seek in a candidate for your House of Delegates?

If you were granted the ability to make a change or an improvement in our area, what would it be? What are the issues that you think are most important at the State and County level?

Career Options?
Industrial Growth?
Farming?
Veterans Issues?
Senior Citizen Issues?
Education?
Children and child related issues?
Labor Relations?
Legislation?

Many things to consider and I am open to any comments and hope to open the door for the 13th District.

What about the recent pay raise for Delegates? Did you know that the House of Delegates is a part time position about 60 days a year and now 62 in the House of 100 Delegates voted to give themself a 33% pay raise!!! They now make over $20,000 a year which is the same money that a Correctional Officer makes in West Virginia working FULL TIME..It is interesting to note that both Delegates in the 13th District voted for the raise and also collect pay for staying in Charleston to do this duty when both live less than 40 miles from the Capitol...

Yes, this something that has me scratching my head as well. The truth is that both Paxton and Martin did in fact vote for giving themself the raise. I am not 100% sure of the other issue about per diem money but for sure the vote was as you said and I do find this to be an issue that Voters should be asking about, think of how much better use this money would have went to raising the salary of those Correctional Officers you speak of, or how about our Teachers?, Veterans, Senior Citizens. Many West Virginians could have been taken care of with the money that is now going into the pockets of those who are supposed to be taking care of us. All I can say is that we really need to vote this year and remember this event on election day.

James,
I was wondering what Dale Martin and Brady Paxton did with the recent Bill to protect the privacy of Gun Owners? This is where both of these guys were against a bill that would allow people to apply for a carry permit to not have their name and address posted in the paper, my Mother was a victim of Domestic Violence and when she went to get a permit to carry after having her life threatened they posted her name and address in the paper for all to see including her sicko ex boyfriend who tracked her down and nearly killed her! Please tell me what your position is on Gun Owners Privacy?

Justin,
Yes I am familiar with this issue and I am deeply moved by your story and hope all is well with your Mother? Please contact me james261968@hotmail.com to discuss.
In short the bill would have protected the right to privacy for law abiding citizens to apply for a permit and have their name hidden from the public. It is at this link in the Gazette and as you can clearly see both Paxton and Martin gave statements opposing the privacy of legal gunowners of West Virginia.
