Masco in general is going under...Kraftmaid is soon going to be just like the Merillat plants that recently closed. The only Masco company doing very well is Behr paint...beacause the average household can afford a 20 dollar can of paint a hell of alot easier than a 30 thousand dollar Kraftmaid kitchen!!! We are all aboard a sinking ship...the USS Masco!

As a former Merillat Las Vegas employee, I can see where this could be heading. I worked for them for nearly 20 years and I had hoped to ride out any storm. Alas, the mighty Masco pulled our plug to go to New Mexico. Good luck and hope you can fight the tide! But as long as there are cheaper places to get land, lumber and labor...your futures aren't secure.

there are still rumors circulating all through kraftmaid that kraftmaid will close their doors in 2009, all the top managers say they have heard none of this and not to worry but they said the same thing about the layoff rumor before it happened. so we as employees just want some honesty from masco and kraftmaid, let us know what masco plans for kraftmaid. before its to late

In the long run, it really is better for employers to communicate honestly about their situation. When they shut workers out of the process, they only make things worse. During a time period when they need high productivity, employee engagement tanks because everyone feels betrayed and scared. I agree with Kim about fairness in layoffs. Smart companies have clear policies in place about how the order of layoffs are determined (seniority, past and current performance evaluations, core business functions, etc). When it just seems random or based on favoritism, companies are much more likely to be sued for wrongful termination.

More layoffs November 10 2011! 300 this time 20% more by end of year. Was good money while it lasted but on to greener pastures. Good luck to all who work there and especially the ones who lost their jobs! Adios Massholes!
