The only reason this makes the news is because of all the hype of teenagers driving crazy and getting into accidents. Back when I was a teenager I'd drive like a maniac as did all my friends. Most of us didn't get into accidents but the teens our age that did get into accidents never made it onto the news. This is just media hype.

This law will never be inforced. Just like the seatbelt law and the cell phone law. just another farce. Parents give your kids a real big hug tonight and hold them dear.

I know parents who don't follow the laws and it makes me sick. Like 6 months of thier kid not having friends in the car is going to ruin their social life. This is making me sick. I'm afraid to even let my kid behind the wheel when he turns 16. Although the one difference between me and a lot of parents out there...my son knows if I find out he is breaking the law....MOMMY will take his license away from him even if the cops don't catch him. More parents need to wake up and smell the roses already!

Where does it say that the teen driver was at fault? Or doesn't that matter to the gratuitous teen bashing crowd.

Well, I had better stock up on embalming fluid and body bags for the summer. This is only the begining and will never end. That's ok, more retirement money for me.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about this accident yet. This could very well be an "accident" rather than another wreckless bunch of kids racing around in performance cars.

My thoughts and prayers are with William Galarza and family...

I never bought a car for either of my children. I told them if they wanted to drive they needed to save their own money to pay for the car and Insure it.

They did not drive until they were 18. Both bought their cars with their own money...I think they learned how to respect their purchases: therefore both were very careful driving...So I had to taxi until they were 18..big deal,,they are ALIVE and very mature about how to drive. I never let them drive MY car either unless I was with them...

Well WTNH certainly implyed it by the way the worded the this paragraph...
"Police say a Ford Escort driven by Amber Russell, 16, collided head on with a Chevy Blazer. Russell had three teenage passengers in the car at the time of the accident. One of those passengers, William Galarza, 17, was critically injured in the accident. "

But you do bring up a good point. If it was a 50 year old drvier who drove into the wrong lane and hit a 16 year old driver, would it still cause people to post here complaining about teen drivers? We do need to remember from time to time that news stories are worded to draw in the eyeballs (or readers in the case of newspapers and online postings) and do sometimes get the facts a little skewed (or even wrong). Their story doesn't really say who was at fault (by how the accident happended) and who (or the age) of the driver/passengers in the other car involved. All that beeing said I do think there is more focus on teen driving skills and parental responsibility now than before and that IS a good thing.
