I'm a newbie (1 year) in town. I have a question.
Does anyone know why the library hours are so limited?
I've seen so many folks attempt to take their children to the library on Sundays only to find a locked door.
As for me, I'm limited to only two evenings when I can spend an hour or two after work. I also have to work some Saturdays.
Any idea?
I am guessing

It's probably a budget thing. It's too bad. I love to take my children to the library on weekends and the hours are very short. And also, my older ones like to use the library in the evenings for academic work but the library is only open until 8:00 p.m. TWICE a week, that's it. sigh...

I would love to see the hours extended, especially during the cold weather seasons! Sunday is a lovely day to take my children and grandchilren to the library.

Limited hours

The fact that the library closes on Sundays in June, before the end of the school year, and doesn't open on Sundays again until October is not helpful, to say the least! My children are doing school work in June and are definitely doing work in September!!

Also, for our older child who works some hours after school, the limited evening hours are a challenge.

(The school district's libraries here in Vermont are very poorly funded.)

Does this library ever do any serious fundraising??

I agree whole heartedly! The library NEEDS to be open from September through June, EVERY day of the week. I say this partly because the public school libraries are so, so lacking!!

Card playing and quilting are fine activities, but this library needs to have programming that relates to the issues of today's world.
P.S. I also agree about the hours.

I AGREE! It's Sunday(and raining..again) and I am trying to find a library take the kids too, they are all closed. Wouldn't it make sense to close on a week-day and open for the week-end? I can't see how that would be a money issue..

This library needs a new director, badly. Some new blood, please!

new childrens librarian

Perhaps the new children's librarian will breath some new life into that department.

The "young adult" section is severly lacking and programs for teenagers in general are pretty much non-existant.

Let's face it, that library needs some major overhaul!
