I am in my late 30's and grew up in Brandon, before it became an art gallery infested Liberal cesspool. As a kid I remember a person named John John the Indian. Does anyone have any info on this individual? What was his story?

I don't know about John John the Indian but John the Indian was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. John was very popular, he was asked to speak at conventions throughout the United States and Canada. He is credited by many for helping them onto the path of recovery. I believe Betty Ford had said that she listened to his tapes while in recovery. John was born on a Indian reservation in Maria Canada. He lived in Berlin, MA. until his death in July 1989.
I'm curious why you ask. Sorry it took four years to answer you.

Hello-John did not die in 1989 as he conducted a Native American private family burial for my brother in 2001 who was part Native American in Brandon,Vermont. Furthermore, John sent me a Christmas card to me in 2003. It is my understanding that he is still alive and residing in Canada.

In addition, John created the eagle art painting in Brandon outside the American Legion in Brandon, Vermont and the Totem Pole next to the Town Hall in Brandon, Vermont. He also carved and sold walking sticks privately and in the town artists coop. He is truly a remarkable and altruistic individual who has shared what little he had to enrich other's existence. Hope this helps.

My family has three of his paintings... my family owned a local store and her traded them for goods.

He was always nice to children.

Pizza Corner-tell me about the paintings that John John traded for goods? I recently found a recording of him on AA website after reading Bill-V's above posts. It is really amazing-apparently he was a leader in AA and traveled all over the country speaking. It is a recording of his speech in Nebraska and gives excellent insight into his life. I always thought he just hung out in Brandon, but he traveled all over the country and touched many people's lives. I was a child in the 70s in Brandon and he always came around Pearl Street and would help myself and my brothers and cousins make snowmen and just was very community oriented.

Here is the link on youtube:

Hard for me to remember... they were of local scenery I believe... snowy mountains etc. They still hang on the wall of my parents house down in TX, I will have to have my mom snap a pic of them.

I didn't realize his extensive traveling either.

Christina D on Pearl Street... your father and brother happen to be doctors?
