I have long felt that if someone from the State DOT or State Police were to do some minimal research, they would find that most of the accidents involving trucks occur between 4-9a.m., give or take a couple hours. This is the time when most of the drivers who have driven through the night are dead tired and likely to fall asleep at the wheel. It just seems to happen every couple weeks without reprieve and whatever the weather conditions.
It seems to me that Governor Rell and legislators should put some teeth in our laws governing truckers for whatever those "bewitching hours" are. Make them drive slower, make them pull into a truck stop, make truckers who have had any kind of accident or ticket get a star or raspberry that is posted on the side of their cab or truck. Or make it so inconvenient that they avoid the State altogether (for the fly-throughs). I'm not sure how one monitors these things, but to let things continue as they have been for the 40 years I have been here seems ridiculous.
