<quoted text>So what you're saying is we humans are pretty much just like wild animals. The ones that are bigger and meaner naturally are drawn to the quieter weaker ones as their prey. And it's no one's fault, it's just nature. But you would like to see the timid ones fight back against this natural bully instinct. Well unfortunately school shooters are also victims that had enough and were driven over the edge by bullying.
When a quiet, different child verbally fights back, they are bullied more in response. When they fight back physically with their smaller bodies, they are beaten down further.
Don't kid yourself, we are not animals, we have a human brain with the capability to show compassion, empathy and restraint. The burden lies entirely on the bully to show this restraint and practice human compassion towards someone that is different than themselves. If the those that are being bullied are minding their own business, then why should they be bullied?
Who said anything about "fighting back?" That is often just more bullying. Being assertive does not mean fighting back. Being resilient does not mean being a school shooter. I also never ever said the "should be" bullied. Your whole post is one big strawman argument.

Bullying has been around forever. I am 68 years old & was bullied in school by kids who just wanted to try & be a big shot...to show off...to bring attention to themselves..to prove to the world just how very insecure they really are. To the kids who are being bullied...do not back down for any reason. Confront them in front of teachers or anyone in authority. They will change their tune fast! I decided I was going to end the bullying towards me. The next time it happened where I was touched where no one should be touched, I slapped the guy & his glasses flew off his face & broke. I went to my teacher & told her what had happened. She in turn called in the principle & my parents & the bully's parents. Needless to say, he was severely punished & extended curtesy towards me the rest of my school days. I was only 12 years old, but I can tell you that this bullying stays with a person for a very long time. There is a rage that stays with you forever.... Please do not allow one really nasty person to control you because they are not worth it. Most bullying is done by teens because of jealousy. The guy who bullied me admitted he resented the fact that I had a really healthy home life & parents who cared. All I can say is stay strong & don't give in to their stupidity & their jealosy tendencies. It's the way they were raised.

I couldn't have said/explained that any better but there are always going to be parents "too busy...too lazy...too drugged up and just stupid to even understand posts like this anyway...we just have to worry about ourselves and not so much in MAKING POINTS by taking your own life...I don't think this person who killed himself was trying to prove any point other than "kids...I am a product of what selfish adults and blind parenting really look like"

The "bully" had enough nerve to speak out against bulling in the paper. Problem is the Police do not handle situations beforehand, if they had this most likely would not of happened. People, the entire story is not printed. This did not happen overnight.

Now is you can also be bullied, anonymously at times, on FB and other networks, such as Topix.

But, these kids still need to stand up for themselves, a la Casey Haines.

I agree with pissed off reader100%.I think parents have to control more the kids and really watch what their kids are doing in school.A lot of parents know that their kids are bullys and do nothing about it.instead of correcting their kids,no is not okay to make fun at a child,is not okay to say mean things to another child,no is not okay to hit another child,no is not okay to bother another child, this are things that they learned from their parents.otherwise the parents will correct their kids.is not about learning how to defend your self,is about teaching our kids that they go to school to learn not to torture another child.bullying another child is wrong.

Standing up for yourself is OBVIOUSLY easier said than done. It it were that simple no kids would be killing themselves. Geez, think before you respond so close-mindedly. I was bullied a bit as a teen but didn't stand up for myself. I was just that kind of person.. Avoided confrontation. Did you forget that every person is different? Or are you under the impression that we are all wired the same? And parents can talk all they want to their children about bullying (which is a wonderful idea) but you cannot force a child to stand up for themselves. Gosh your response obviously didn't involve much thought. My 9 yr old nephew was just assaulted like crazy at school and he is not a child to stand up for himself. So open your mind a little more before you respond in such a way to such a tragedy.

Im sorry about this young mans death, but it is not bullying that is wrong with our children. We were all bullied at sometime in our lives. Our children must learn to stand up for themselves and stop blaming everyone else.Nothing anyone says or does is worth taking your own life. Its sounds cold and iam sorry but parents talk to your children let them grow up and learn how to deal with society and life.

Bullies in all cases are really cowards trying to make up for the fact that they are that way
