09/19/12 comment in daily news regarding this story sums it up perfectly!
I am a resident since 1965 in Middle Village. Served in Viet Nam, held position of President of Middle Village Kiwannis Club twice, and President of Middle Village Lions club once. There always was and still is since I am here, the destination for many young teenagers to drink in the park. However, I have left my home many mornings in the dark around 5:30a.m. and was approached by young women in their early twenties to get a lift back to where they live. Flushing avenue in Maspeth, or Knickerbocker avenue. One women recently who moved here to Maspeth, from California was dumped by a guy in the Park and she didn't know how to get back to Tonser street. Now as far as the garbage goes, I have been posting on TOPIX MIDDLE VILLAGE for over one year now about it. My mothers home is on 74 st. right by the park. She and many of the neighbors find diapers thrown on the lawn, wrappers, bottles, and cans. These people who litter are not from our area at all. They come because of the Water Theme Park on 74 street. They spend the entire saturday/sunday here all day and night. Yes it is a public park but I did speak to a few friendly people and the came from Menahan street and Knickerbocker Avenue. So I guess it is to be expected that you Create a New Theme Park that you will get many from many other neighborhoods too.
BUT THE BIGGEST STORY TO BE TOLD IS THE POTENTIAL OF NEW HOUSING SITE FOR FORMER INMATES BY COOPER AVENUE/ MIDDLE VILLAGE.
GO TO ROSA PIZZERIA ANY EVENING IT IS THE TALK OF THE TOWN.
IF IT DOES HAPPEN THERE WILL BE A MASSS EXODUS FROM MIDDLE VILLAGE!
