What happened? The village messed up and decided that no one else but them knows how to do anything. Once again the village leaders do what they want, when they want and to hell with the rest. They didnt do what was required from them and thumbed their noses at the state. its time to get rid of these jokers and fix the village.

i went to meeting tonight. nothing was mentioned about this failure. as a matter of fact, they were patting themselves on the back yet again for their response to storms. there was a moment when the mayor showed his true colors. he said that people fixed their homes "on the sneak" directly after sandy, and now they want documentation for insurance. he stated that since they decided to do it illegally without permits on the sneak, he thinks it's fair that they wait a while for village to sign off on their repairs. he even went on to say that it wasn't his problem. I know quite a few people who lost all/most of their homes to sandy. most people were just thinking of drying out and repairing the damage; not the permit process. most people didn't even know they needed to get permits to fix their roof or clean up and change sheetrock. the callus way it was spoken of at the meeting really let people see the kind of village we have.(and it's not nice)

I'm shocked they didnt bring up that one snow storm we had also!
you DONT need a permit to fix your roof. show me where it says you need a permit to re-shingle your roof? TOB never made you get permits! If you arent adding to your foundation, you should be able to do any repairs you want.
and to everyone that voted in this village and are now saying, "this isnt the village I voted for", you have no one to blame but yourselves. what else did you think would happen? a fun loving village that could run on 500,000 dollars a year with no one being harassed?

So, people did structural, electrical and plumbing repairs then re-insulated and sheetrocked, all without permits. How could they claim that they didn't know they needed permits and inspections to ensure the repairs were done up to code?

I guess the homeowners (or investors more likely) are now in trouble because their insurance companies want documentation. Or, the slip shod repairs were meant to hide unrepaired defects in order to make the house available for sale.

Anyone thinking of buying a house in MBV south of Dogwood Rd......BEWARE.

anyone thinking about buying a house in MBV anywhere...BEWARE! We have a group of trustees who rule with an iron fist, not their brains and they stalk and harass you if you arent "one of them". I have a feeling that may change soon in the future though.
But please, anyone, especially YOU Brady, show me where it says you need a permit to redo your roof! Why is the VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR, not a building inspector mind you, going around ticketing people for redoing their roof?

Isnt that what Crazy Rhonda is doing right now? They keep expanding the foundation and adding rooms on to their house without proper permits. The village keeps turning a blind eye to her because she helped with forming a village.
I guess SOME people need permits and others dont. Gary never got his permits, did he? He did all that work, electrical, structural, insulation and sheetrock with one single permit filed of paid for! But i guess when your a politician, rules dont apply to you.

I agree, but if I use a village approved contractor. Do I need a permit to repair sheetrock?

So my child hits the wall by accident with a bat, hockey stick, whatever, and to fix that hole I first need to go to a "village administrator", who might as well be a secretary, and pay for a permit? Yeah right.

actually, if you are not changing anything and are simply repairing a broken pipe, or putting in insulation and sheetrock, then why would you need a permit? i would bet alot of money that NOBODY gets permits to put in sheetrock. And i am also guessing that every time someone calls a plumber to fix a pipe, they don't get a permit for that either. if you are only fixing what is already there, you should not have to get a permit. that's just nuts. stop trying to defend the undefendable.

I never said you need a permit to redo your roof. But, you would if you change from a flat roof to a hip, gable or shed roof. That's structural. If you want to point to the post where I said that, please do.

NO way does fixing a hole in drywall require a permit. The removal of the waterlogged sheetrock, and insulation caused by the flood is a different story. This is not anything new. Every town requires this type of restoration to conform to current building codes and electrical certification. If you don't have permits and underwriters certs for extensive flood damage, who should we blame?

it is an assumption that the sheetrock was waterlogged. it could have just gotten damp and residents are afraid of mold. the village's assumption that repairs were "done on the sneak" is absurd. Most residents were simply trying to dry out and get back to normal. As a matter of fact, the village didn't even start to ask for permits until months later. Some people came back on day 2 or three and simply fixed their homes. Would you live in a wet house? no you would not. would you go to a village that is notoriously slow to process any building permits (except for friends and family of course) and expect anything different. I applied for a permit to add a garage. I went to the village hall and asked what I had to do to obtain this permit. I was not given a sheet of paper with the requirements.(like the one you get from Brookhaven). Instead I was told I needed plans. I got the plans. Then I was told that I needed to send neighbors letters. I did this. Then I was told that I would need a structural engineer to sign off that my property was sufficient to put a garage. done. months and months went by. Every time I did one thing they asked, they asked for 3 more things. Trying to get a village inspector is a nightmare. I wanted a GARAGE not attached to my home. The village said they would need to go inside my home and do a full inspection first. What is the reason for that? It is just bullsh---t.

They are totally unprofessional; especially their so-called building inspector. after months of hassle and jumping through hoops of fire, I was finally ispected. the "inspection" consisted of TB coming to my home, standing outside of my front gate and telling me it was done. He never actually inspected anything. I suspect that they made me jump through hoops because I was not for the formation of the village and was vocal about it.

it is simply not fair.
