LIPA came in one day and shut the electric off.

Thanks for the info. It is a shame though. Bad time of the year for the workers. Still seems unbelievable that a busy business with so many years behind them could let this happen and I imagine it was not only an unpaid LIPA bill????

I guess the partners split up. Jack opened a restaurant in Port Jeff, Grumpy Jacks. So I am sure there is more to the story than meets the eye. It is a shame, they always had great food and a good business.

Since my original post I heard that the Health dept. may have been involved. Is this just a rumor, who knows? I hope not and the post from "sarah" has a different reason, all possible. Did the workers go with the partner who supposedly opened another place in Port Jeff? If so I may look for that place, at least the food may be the same. I could not find the name or phone number online. Can anyone verify the location? If not I guess for the food and price I will stick with J & R's Steakhouse, good food and prices just a different atmosphere.

Im sure there is more to the story, considering they never paid out over $300,000 in super bowl pots from last year. Supposedly a robbery attempt. Doubtful !!! Nobody to complain to though, since it is not very legal. But if anyone was there on a supersunday, you know the amount of cash flowing.

Well I guess I am just dumb. I never thought there were all these issues from that place. It seems that they got "greedy" and were not satisfied with their earnings from legitimate business. Now they have lost it. Sorry "angryatmikes" I hope they did not cheat you out of too much.

I heard about the robbery. Sounds a little fishy to me. Most of the bartenders had attitude, like if you were not a regular, you could sit forever waiting for a drink, even if bar was only half full. Must admit, the food was good.

Wow, robbery story. They killed their "goose" for a fast quick bucks. Hope the "bartenders with attitude" find another gig.

Where is Grumpy Jacks? How are the prices? If the food is the good maybe they have the same staff and I hope minus the negative things from Mike's.

Not sure of the name of the street, but the place formally known as Rubys, in Port Jefferson. Two blocks from train station, right behind Taras.

The new place is on Oakland st. Basically the same menu, food is better though. Impossible to get a seat on fri or sat. I only lost 3k personally, but some were up near 40k from their superbowl pools
