A casino operation on Wm Floyd Pkwy makes no economic sense. There is already too much traffic. And, the area needs to have a sewer system connection.

A better location is the former Parr Meadows site, near the LIE. Sewers are easier to develop and there is no residential nearby. I do support the idea of jobs and tax revenue being created, and it should stay in Suffolk County.

Agreed. There is a large potential for job growth as well as many other local businesses and potential new businesses to flourish and accentuate the area, and find living here a bit more enticing. The Pilgrim State site might be best suited for this - already have developed sewer systems, and right off the parkway.

You also need to look at the areas where Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are - after researching, these casinos were vehemently fought against opening - many businesses are now dependent on the revenue these establishments bring, and scratch their collective heads, wondering why they fought this in the first place.

Those collective civics should look at the big picture first before starting a demonstration like this. These civics don't seem to be fighting more housing in this area, which brings ZERO revenue, except to the owners of those properties - why fight a large money making venture that could literally help many in this area who are currently out of work?

Dumb move on the civics - it's o.k. to bring more housing, more Section 8 and DSS, but not a casino?

Casino operators also pay school taxes......
Wm Floyd school district is heavily dependent on state aid, so more taxes being paid by new businesses would ease our collective property tax burdens.

People, Indians do not pay taxes so therefore there would not be any tax benefit to school districts. Aslo the William Floyd School district is only a very small portion of the airport most of the property is in either Longwood or Eastport/South Manor so if there were any pilot payments they would get the majority.bb

I have been an active civic leader for over 25 years. This is incredible that the ABCO Group won't even wait for a rough proposal or draft for a project.
The bottom line is these asses don't wan't anything anywhere.
The people of Suffolk and Long Island had better wake up.
Nothing has been proposed, not a high rise hotel, not a 5 story Casino not a 65 story Ski slope, absolutly nothing. In So East Florida there are at least 3 casinos that I have visited. In season and I have never seen any traffic or crowds. They are 2 stories buildings with some ammenities.
While this is just 1 area, you people won't even listen.
You had your chance with Rechler a LI business man that had a plan & funds. I doubt if he will ever return.

I agree they are asses. They want to protest something thats not even going to happen here. There are at least 5 other locations they are looking at. All these people want that are looking to picket is their picture in the paper. Thats all. They really dont care about this community.

It may be your belief that Indians do not have to pay taxes, but that is not true. All employers are required to withhold taxes, such as federal withholding tax and social security tax. NY state taxes are also subject to withholding. Sales taxes are the responsibility of the collecting agent to truthfully account for, collect and remit. The sales tax is the item Indians believe they are not required to collect, since they believe they hold sovereignty.

I am under the impression that Indians do not pay income taxes and if they use Indians as employees those people will not have to pay taxes. I don't know if they use non-indians if they will withold taxes since they will claim it is soverign land.
I could be wrong though.

Both indians and nonindians are subject to Social security and federal income tax. NOBODY is exempt, except for clergy with a vow of poverty, and even that is a tricky subject. Also, casinos are required to pay federal excise taxes on certain legal wagers collected, and there is no exemption in the code for Indians with respect to this assessment.

The casino may also be subject to P.I.L.O.T.'s which would be negotiated with the municipalities and school districts upon which the casino is erected.

I have always viewed PILOT payments as a form of a bribe.

Well, that may be a valid perception. But, at least the money gets put into the coffer of the entity that allows the activity in it's jurisdiction. A cost of doing business.

I hope the casino decides to build here. We can use the business. These civics do not represent all citizens in this area. I for one, hope the people stand firm against their protest.

This is for the two civic pollsters above - do either of your civic groups have any influence whatsoever in stopping ABCO or at the very least hold this entity off from a nonsensical protest against a potential money making venture for this area, or at the very least Suffolk County?

It would be understandable if ABCO saw their plans, intentions, environmental impact studies, etc., to have a negative stance. To blindly protest is quite simply a waste of time, effort, and the individuals who elect those people as president of their civics should take a long hard look at what their elected leaders are doing.

Civic group presidents that are affiliated with ABCO should put this question to a vote with their constituents first.

Your enlightenment on this is greatly appreciated. This project could very well help to maintain keeping Suffolk County in the black - something virtually no other county or municipality in New York has been able to do.

Thanks Tony.

Suffolk County and Brookhaven town would indeed benefit, but there must be assurances that the impacted communities also derive a tangible benefit. Otherwise, move the casino to Nassau.
