He was illegally using his ATV on a public road with no one supervising him. He not only killed himself, but could have killed someone else. His parent should have prevented his death. Your comments glorify and encourage this reckless behavior and lack of responsibiity by parents of ATV users. Shame on you.

It is always a tragedy when a young person has an accident that results in an untimely death. I did not know this boy, or his family, but I'm sure that a day will not pass where his parents don't feel the pain of losing a child. It is very sad.
The answer is not riding illegally on the street. With all the money we pay in taxes and all the open space that has been purchased by both Suffolk County and the Towns - where are the ATV parks???
We need to make the politicians open ATV parks, for the safety of the riders and the residents. They (the politicians) seem to be too worried about getting sued to take action sometimes and as a result we all suffer.

Pat said it best "darwin's law at it's finest"
The response was vulgarities and that tells me
all what kind of people we are dealing with.
Put on a backpack and use your own motor namely
the heart. It has enough hp to take theru nature.
I am sick and tired of seeing obese kids riding
around on those noisy machines in our few quiet
places on L.I. Put a ban on ATVs.

it is always sad when someone dies for any reason. we take chances riding atvs or even driving cars or walking down the street for that matter. i myself had an incident where a suffolk county cop was doing about 40-60mph in an abandoned psych place which has acres upon acres of land. i killed my engine to have a cigarete break but had i continued i would have turned left and the suv would have killed me... split seconds is what it comes down to in life. And who would have been at fault... me or the cop?? he shouldnt have been driving that fast in there, and for myself: that place is just abandoned and it was where everyone rode atvs bc of how large it is. reguardless i would be dead and could only hope my family gave me credit to claiming responsibility for my own actions. it has since been turned into a conservation for birds. if our little atvs pollute that much then they should have thought of that before building a tanger outlet center doubling the large trucks driving up and down commack road and dumping all the fumes right in the heart of the conservation.
why can you purchase an atv in nys if its illegal to drive on public roads (yet we can cross a street only if we need to get to another trail) and as far as tresspassing goes, um most of the land just sits and is abondoned who cares if we ride as long as we are responsible or considerate of the environment or grounds and dont purposely do damage. grass grows back. i am all for the environment, but the land of the conservation was donated to some lady(who works for the county) for whatever reason and just sits there. actually spent several $1,000s if not $100,000s on cement blocks the size of cars to block openings... and the EPA has their own atvs to chase you out hahahha .. there will always be birds and trees for them like state parks or even the loud annoying birds in all of our back yards in the am. however if they expect us not to ride our 4k-9k $ atvs somewhere illegally then why cant we COMPROMISE. no one who rides would think twice about paying a $10-20 yearly fee X 1000 riders(+)=($20k +)some income for land which doesnt require any upkeep. the atvs take care of grooming all trails as we ride through. and we assume all risk riding. it does come down to experience when factoring how safe something is.... and if trails were marked correctly (one way) it would help such things as crashes etc.
anyone over 35-45+ years old should never be so quick to judge.... you were part of a different erra with lesser strict rules and laws. YOU TOO WERE YOUNG ONCE. as for all you fellow quad riders: if you just dont speed on roads and be jerks to people ( maybe give a nice wave instead of finger) we could co exist with one less trivial thing to argue about in this world.
respect gets respect back
there are people who just are debbie downers / negative nanceys who are unhappy with their lives, government, who knows & take it out on whomever they can.... but there is no reason to call the cops and make us pay $1,000s in impound fees.... you dont like getting a $75-150 ticket for speeding or parking etc... imagine how we feel when we have to pay $500-$10,000 in impound fees
some people also lack the luxury of owning a $1000+ trailer to travel with their atvs and are forced to ride wherever they have access. and as far as the loudness of atvs.... i dont think it is anything compared to many of the motorcycles or cars that drive up and down my block... but you dont see me chasing that person, bc its someone enjoying something they own and poured their $ into bc it makes them feel good
thanks for listening and my best goes out to anyone who has lost a loved one in any kind of car, motorcycle, atv etc. related tragedy

DayNY, These ATV people are LAW BREAKERS who have NO REGARD for themselves or others' safety or regard for their property, and should be punished TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.
This fatality is an example of WHY it is outlawed.
THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN ABSOLVE THESE MISCREANTS for the "disrespect" that they show others in our society, and NO FINE OR IMPRISONMENT is good enough to PUNISH THEM FOR WHAT THEY CONSCIOUSLY DO AGAINST THE LAW.
It is apparent from your long sob story, that you just don't "get it", and there is no possibility that you will "Get It" other than eventually, to suffer the same fate of this STUPID PERSON!
I feel sorry for your Ignorance and shed NO TEARS from these DOPES who flaunt the LAWS, everyone else has NO PROBLEM following !

I honestly can't even believe you scumbags writing nasty comments like he killed himself can even sleep at night. How much of an assh*le do you have to be to talk negatively about a deceased teen. Rot in hell.
