Middle island dog park is a complete joke. First of all it's really small so it's not really for large breed dogs. There is no water at all for the dogs to drink and you have to pay $25.00 for A "puppy pass" whoever heard of such a thing. Why do we have to pay for our dogs play? I wonder what they are using that $25.00 for. This park should be shut down ASAP. I'm going to tell eveyone at other dog parks how awful Middle Island is.

I don't like this park either I was shocked that they had no water and they have so many silly rules.(Your dog has to be fixed, they have to be registered with the town & all shots have to be on file.) My dog goes to Blydenburg It's a bit of a drive but it's worth it. It's really big they have drinking fountains for them and it's FREE. When Middle Island closes their park I doubt it will be missed.

SMALL??? It's the largest dog park in NY State with 4 acres!
As far as the water, you are right, it never should have been opened until the water was in place-
As far as the rules, if you don't like them, go to another dog park- Middle Island is all about safety

I love this park. They are working on the water now. It is a very big place. It is a shame that all of these things that are going on down there though. Gina is a great person and she has kept everyone and their dogs safe, and now her name is getting runined because Jordan and his friends are mad about the rules. Everyone knew the rules when they got their pooch passes. If you dont like it then you need to get out and leave everyone else alone. Everything needs to stop. And everyone needs to let Gina do what she has been doing, because as far as i am concerned she is doing a great job.

It is a great park, as far as Gina goes kicking dogs is not a good thing (I've seen it my self). As far as rules the no toy policy rule was not incorperated till late May after pretty much all the pooch passes were given out.

I've been to this park multiple times and haven't had any problems. I do feel that the park shouldn't have been open until the water was completely installed, but they are working on it. We just bring our own dish of water for our dog. My dog has never been to a park like this before and she loves it. We first went to Blydenburgh (one day) because we didn't have a chance to get the pooch pass, but she was beat up by 2 dogs that were in the pen after we took her off the leash (after about 10 mins. and showing her the dogs were okay)(This was not a good first experience). So we checked out Middle Island dog park, and liked the rules they had and have been happy there since. I like the fact that the dogs are fixed and knowing all the dogs have had their shots. I also like the fact that there are no toys because it decreases the chances of fighting. Even with a tennis ball in the pen, a dog will chase it if it is thrown most likely. If one dog goes after the ball, and another dog there likes to chase others, it's just an accident waiting to happen. Like someone else said, this park is all about safety. My dog is a year old, and I want to make sure that if I take her out she is going to be safe (as much as we can control). If someone is not happy with the rules in this park (which you should have read BEFORE purchasing the pooch pass), then leave. Don't ruin something that other people and dogs are happy about because you don't like the rules. Go to another dog park that has no rules then. My dog loves this place so much that we can't even say "dog park" in front of her without her getting excited and wanting to go. This is a great place to socialize the dogs and give them more exercise.

Just out of curiosity, what is so bad about the no toy rule? I can understand that you may not be too happy about a change occurring to the rules, but this place is still relatively new so this shouldn't be too big of a surprise (laws get modified too). If there are no dogs in the pen when you're in there that is one thing, but you have to be considerate of other dogs/people as well. You don't know how someone else's dog will react. Some dogs may not care that a dog is playing ball, while other dogs may and things can happen. The pooch pass did cost money, but it really wasn't that bad for a year "membership." If you really can't stand it, then try somewhere else that may be free for awhile. It's about the dogs and being safe- which is why rules are developed so there are no misunderstandings. What happens if a dog gets hurt while playing with a toy because your dog chased them and somehow hurt the other dog? Your dog may have been just trying to play (hopefully), but they can be strong or unpredictable sometimes- you never know what can happen. Do you really want that on your shoulders? Lawsuits can occur. I just think it is better to be safe then sorry with this rule.

The PROBLEM has been that Gina is a small dog owner who butts in to big dog doings. The big dog owners are great. We control our dogs, the park is about them NOT us. One big dog needs a pacifier, it carries around trash or a pine cone or such. Dogs will not fight over a toy! Owners do that for them. The dogs talk to each other well and if 2 are cranky a third comes along to tell them to chill.
The gina person should keep her nose on her side of the fence. We're all happy, she is NOT in charge, just a small animal owner that interferes too much in everyone's business and not many like her but try to tolerate or ignore her.
The park is nice, it opened before water - big deal - we all brought the dogs all shared. The fee makes sense too. It paid for the fence, the benches, guards, etc. The rules are asinine but we have a committee now and miss mouth is not a part of it so things are better each day.

No not at all. What a bizarre thing to say. I do not have hate for anyone. I specifically described a problem everyone is confused about. That is all. I don't know the woman causing the problems, never spoke to her, all I know is she has a small dog but keeps trying to boss people around in the big dog park. Why she keeps interfering is anyones guess. She is unkind to be making problems where none exist. And THAT is what I said. We do NOT (big dogs) have a problem. We love our park, our dogs, and are all friendly. We feel it is a park for the dogs. As long as they are getting along all is ok.

You aren't really unable to grasp this are you?
Seeing someone, hearing them, watching what they do does not require having been introduced and having a conversation now does it?
I see people on tv but I can't say I KNOW them, I've met people at a ball game and spoken to them but never learned their names, I have had to deal with people on these sites and don't know them either - I know you are maybe from Wyandanch but it doesn't mean I know you. If someone is causing problems and you SEE it and know the persons name that is not slander. Cops arrest people they don't know because they SEE them causing a problem, News reporters write about people that cause a problem but have never been introduced to them.

For the last time the problem causer does not even participate in the big dog park. So complaining about a big dog when NO big dogs are complaining is causing a problem. Can you see it when I type it slowly? Let it alone now and go where you have a use.

Don't write to me anymore. If you can't get something this simple go back to school. Don't waste my time.
