City LogoFrankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes publicly questioned Frankfort City Councilman Rick Gunyon’s statement about the amount of money being paid to public relations consultant Susan Nelson by the City of Frankfort. McBarnes strongly disagreed with Gunyon’s statement that he was uncomfortable with Nelson’s pay and he thought there were better uses to put that money towards. McBarnes said the City has put out 129 press releases, worked on various grants and created various programs within the community because they communicated those desires with local citizens. Nelson, who was compensated for more than $92,000 for her services in 2012, has been paid $43,000 for those same services this year, according to McBarnes, who added Nelson is the only consultant that works for all five departments within the city.

Because he always throws a tantrum when he doesn't like what he is being told.Sorry Mr. Mayor many citizens feel the same way! Our tax dollars could be spent better elsewhere.
Honestly we are tired of seeing you staged photo ops organized by this PR person. I may not always agree with Mr. Gunyon but he called you out on a very sensitive subject with tax payers. Can't pick and choose your battles when you are in public office.

I don't think its right that he would spend that kind of money on a PR person either. I was told by a Street Department worker that several guys were mad because they were told no raises would be given out this year. It seems to me the Mayor thinks his PR person is so much more important than the rest of his workers in the city. Boy, not sure I would spend that kind of money on a lady that doesn't even live around here and then to say the hell with the rest of his employees. Oh Well, its his city and he makes that pretty clear, watch out Gunyon, he will be after you next. You don't cross the Mayor's path..

Got a ask just what has those 129 press releases done for this city except to build the mayor's and Chief of Police's resume. I see no new revenue that will raise the per capita for our city and I don't see our community growing leaps and bounds.. And the local programs come on most of those programs have been in place for many years. And they have done exactly what they have done this time nothing but put the mayor and chief of police's face on the front page of the paper. I agree let's spend the money on raises, benefits, roads and etc then for the PR person.

Of course the mayor values his PR person over lowly workers. He is a prince and is entitled to such luxuries. The taxpayers are being billed a king's ransom for her PR services. You might ask yourself,is this publicity for the town of Frankfort or publicity on the mayor's behalf? What does your gut instinct tell you? Mine is telling me he needs (wants) a PR person because I believe the mayor has bigger ambitions that go beyond Frankfort's town limits. Frankly, the voters need to send this b list rockstar back to the cut-out bins next election.

I'm sure one of his acolytes will soon post a response, and it will go something like this; "You hayseeds just don't understand."

It's Good To Be King.

Just ask the mayor.

isn't this the same guy who professes to live on the north side of town when in all reality is living on the south end?

You'd think he'd be flying under the radar with this hanging over his head and leave the good mayor alone. After all Mcbarnes did bring Amazon to Indiana.

Mr. Pippenger needs to come back and challenge Mr. McBarnes in the next election.

A "commoner" need to be mayor.

I especially liked the Mayor's comment about how the Council can't control what he spends after they appropriate the money...we shall see about that!

Absolutely, just leave the city workers with no raises while some out of towner makes 3 times what the average city worker does. Hey how can you keep good employees if you don't make them feel like they count?

I don't like the money for the PR lady either, but until the council puts the smackdown on the budget nothing will happen. He has a "kitty" for this lady so until it gets removed, drastically altered, or they make him submit requests and they have to approve them, its all his to do with whatever.

The last 12 years this city has been going down hill because the leadership was only capable of maintaining. Their ability to THINK of leading a progressive city was not there, we where not going anywhere. Judge him on his results don't micro manage his every move. Haters will always be here! N.V. is nothing more than a cowardly blowhard! Truth be known, probably someone hurt in the last election. They supported our mayor only hoping to get a job out of it. He said he would hire the best people for the job, not pay back all his supporters with only their own personal gain in mind. I know of one who never spent one minute going door to door but bellied up to him during a couple of meetings, after they didn't get their just rewards in the way of a job, their support turned to hate!

You posted, and I quote:

"The last thing ANYONE on topix will be guilty of is having courage. The very nature of topix is the fact that you don't need it! Simply it is a place for blow hards to feel powerful, because they lack GUESS WHAT, courage to do it in a public forum. Bullies will never expose themselves if they feel like they will be confronted!"

How pathetic... Cant practice what your preach?!?

I am glad to see Mr. Gunyon speak up and be watchful of the taxpayers money. Maybe he will run for Mayor next election. I don't think anyone will want the job because by then the city will be so broke,

Whole story---you are right about some of the things you said. But there is a difference of helping him, and him Not speaking to the ones who did walk and/or gave money. You were not around all the time to know what he said. For a young man to be as cold as he is deep down, hate to see how he will be in 20yrs. He needs to listen to some of those people that helped. But I guess he has you!!! Can not understand, for instant why he did not live Mullen on until his time was up, nothing too big going on, that could not wait. No one knows about any of the Boards until they are on one. There are a lot of things that can and can not be done.
