Northwest High, 36 acres to minibike on, pond, Auction barn, hitchhiking everywhere. Threw a snowball at a cop car by the shell at Paka Plaza to get a ride home in that bad blizzard in 78. It worked. Dish washing at Roccies Pizza. Leaving.

>...Does anyone remember the Chinese Rest. atop of Woolworths, maybe it was above the store on the corner.
Fairy Garden. Yes, above the drug store on the corner of Mich Ave and Jackson St. I only ate there once....probably in the early 1960's. Cantonese style. Not my favorite Chinese food.

I was born here. It is sad to see all the things from our youth gone.......Rolling pin bakery..flat iron drug..fields was the best the rose room was super, the big boy downtown, mac's drive inn, small neighborhood grocery stores, actually being able to see the cascades falls with no wall, The viking resturant,Rocci's. The downtown with real department store. Oh how great is was....

Ella Sharp Park museum and Granary Restaurant, The Cascades, The Manor House, Essex Heights, beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, Jacobsons, the windows at Fields at Christmastime, The Root Beer stand, A & W, McDonads on Prospect, Stonewall Road, Woolworths, The Fairy Garden, Bee's drive-in, Brown's Lake. Still a beautiful place, but so many shops gone and some of the neighorhoods have gone down hill. This will change one day though when more people discover what a great place Jackson was and still is. You can be a part of this by supporting local business.

I was a kid growing up in Jackson in the 80's...still remember riding the red pony at Miller Shoes, that brown carpeted ramp at Curtis Mathis where we rented tapes for the Beta, going to All Skate on Friday nights, looking at the dogs at the pet store at Paka Plaza and buying nickel cashews and candy at Woolworth. Holly Bi Golly's (sp??) was awesome because they gave you free popcorn but what I liked best was when my mom, brother and I met my dad at West Point for dinner after he got out of work. Spent many summers at Grandma and Grandpa's cottage on Clark Lake, too. Love the kiddie cocktales and Beach Bar tomato soup!!

Favorite memory Santa Claus flew to the Paka Plaza in the early 1970s and people were lined up outside from the bank all the way to sears.
Woolworth store Paka Plaza and downtown
Softball Games at several fields on the Hunt school property.
The Dome and Chicken Inn, and the Holly's Stake and four, and Shoppers Fare, and Rinks.
I will always love Jackson. I wish my kids could have been there in the best of times.

I know that Matthews was on Jackson St because I used to go there after school when I attended St. Mary's. My husband remembers an ice cream place by High St so that must have been Fleming ice cream.

Pizza beach was the best. I had a friend who managed the place and now he owns a successful restaurant in Springport called Chubbys cafe. His name was Kenny
