Fireworks dealers bet on another booming holiday

Despite a sluggish economy and soaring gas prices, rockets will still light up the sky this Fourth of July.

Never have understood why neighborhood fireworks are fun. Entertainment for the mentally challenged, is my guess.

If you want a good fireworks show attend a legally sanctioned show conducted by professionals. Playing with unstable, junk fireworks is dangerous, stupid, unecessary, and a nusiance for the neighbors. Also, there is always the group of idiots that fire guns because they think no one can tell the difference between gunfire and firecrackers. Wrong answer. Firecrackers go pop, bang, blam, crackle pop. Gun fire is a quick pow, pow, pow. I can tell the difference and any anyone that shoots a gun at night as a substitute for a firecracker can be tracked down and prosecuted. I'll be listening. Watch your itchy trigger fingers!

This is the first year we are not doing ground fireworks, since I can remember, about when I was 7 or 8? That was about 1945.
Too many of our family resources have been cut short, by food prices, gasoline and all the other rising costs. Ahhh, but the government can still use tax money to do it and we can watch it for free on TV, duhhhh until Feb 2009!!! Then that (the TV) is gone. I am sure the Cheney, McCain, and Bush families will have a very happy and entertaining 4th of July, and party and feast very heartily. I wish we could call it "Independence Day!!""

Just read a bit of comments. To bobby-g of high springs, florida. What kind of a neighborhood do you live in, mister? We are Floridians, and country folks, and we don't shoot guns on holidays, too many families out celebrating to have bullets flying through the air. And also bullets cost money, and can provide food for the family. You must live in a wealthy area, that likes to shoot their guns on Holidays. Sorry we just are too family oriented.

Come on down to Broward county Mr. Ohio Man and have a listen for yourself. There is no substitution for experience and I lived in South Florida for more than twenty-five years. Specifically, Plantation (just west of Ft. Lauderdale) is one of the worst offenders in firing guns during the Fourth. What goes on in Ohio has nothing to do with Florida. So, get a grip before you write another truly stupid comment. Thanks.
