As the mind thinks, so it is...
At the January 10th no class performance of those participants publicly protesting "we are the best of the class" and we are as collectively good in Springboro as we can be, so don't go making any changes promoting greater individual student achievement" ....
I agree wholehearedly that many of Jan 10's participants displayed an incredible amount of pretentiousness. Teachers in the audience thinking of nothing but THEMSELVES collectively shouted down further conversion school discussion. Certain parents chimed in with these teachers. That was nothing less than a union on union orgy. If you see parents from the 1/10 speakers list in and around town, you may still notice a strange brown substance smeared in and around their nose and inside their nostrils.

What happened Jan 10th is a gross injustice to parents in this district who have students who are struggling in one or more academic areas. Many have problems at home, sometimes with parents that aren't parents. These are the kids that sometimes get so discouraged that they drop out of school. A lot of them would tell you for various reasons they have trouble keeping up with the rest of the class. Some of these struggling students might tell you they're being completely left behind by a school district's omnipresent subliminal standard....
"Excellent with Distinction...with NO exception"

What happened Jan 10th is a gross injustice to many district parents of gifted children. Ask some of these kids. Many of them will tell you they reach a point where they feel they are no longer being challenged. They'll tell you in certain classes they get held back to the "rest of the pack" because there's not enough people or resources for them, or the TYPE of resourses they need at their level.

I think the majority of our teachers ENJOY working for our district. It's the board that is trying to move away from imporving our school and towards politically motivated agendas. Don't speak for the teacher majority unless you have a direct inside track.
Remember, Kids First and those who are in education place kids before self.
We have GOOD teachers who CARE for our students. Quit trying to buly yourself.
Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners are fortunate to have elected reform-minded school board representatives who are improving our schools; even while responding with due respect to the relentless demonizing of our reform minded board representatives, from their political opposition of adults first union/community activists; the 2012 Highlights of the board's accomplishments make our Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners Boro proud.

So exactly why are the Boro Blah blabbers so strongly opposing the leadership of our BOE majority's common sense agenda of children first budgeting?
Before Kelly Kohls got on this school board our district projected a $30 million deficit. Now, we project a $5 million surplus after replacing many things taken from the children during the levy campaigns. We have now added many curriculum and safety measures for the children of our district. All of this without new money. What changed? Our new BOE majority have become much more efficient, holding people accountable, and making all decisions using what is good for education and our children as first priority.

Now, WHY would anyone oppose the board's decisions doing what is good for education and our children first?

There are embedded organized units that desperately need to prove that our reform-minded board members are wrong and that more money is imperative, because they see a collapse of their SYSTEM if it is proven that it is not about the money after all. IF the money stops, then this organized opposition is no longer necessary and no longer maintains control of education and more importantly, THE MONEY. Do you understand?

Our School Board was very respectful and attentive to all those who spoke their concerns Thursday night, including the Springboro Education Association representative and the high schoolers representing the Springboro Education Association Youth Union.
Our school superintendent also responded respectfully, with appreciation and understanding of the SEA representative's concerns for teachers employment security.
From my view of the board room, it was only the few teachers and parents scattered about hissing and jabbering among themselves,
who were showing disrespect.
The SEA Youth Union group of high schoolers were used as mouthpieces for the Babb/Bowman activists who are posting on various blogs the same self-interest whines to save our teachers, for our teachers best interest first, whether or not it is in the best interest of our all our students.

Stop spreading lies, Lurker.
Education in Springboro is all about being informed. Thanks to concerned citizens truthfully educating Springboro on school issues, and transparency in our local school government, Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners are fully "informed" of the continuing SEA indoctrination of our students, prompting high schoolers again and again to challenge and defy school board authority in their SEA fight for social justice for teachers'
continuing oppression of changes needed in our 21st century education of all students to their highest individual potential.

Our Springboro Education Association continues showing their disrespect toward our high schoolers, by folding these easily manipulated young people into the SEA agenda of empowerment over our students in our classrooms, in attempts to control our community-wide school tax dollars.

Other examples of union thugs demonizing targeted board member, bringing harm to our schools, our children, our good Springboro teachers and school district leaders, and our community as a whole.... all in the name of SEA self-interest union thug greed.

School board member Petroni has finally revealed what he does for a living, and you'll never believe it: Charter Schools!!! You know, those unregulated messes that pay pennies for teachers, following their own brand of renegade educational ideas. Back in the day, School Board members were voted in for the sacred charge of overseeing strong schools and supporting staff in their intellectual endeavors. Petroni's mission is obviously to make a buck by undermining the excellent rating of Springboro Schools, so that he can found some new fantastically visionary state-supported charter schools. Is this why he and his Tea Party School Board cohorts are contemplating cutting the school day and eliminating "non-essential" courses from the curriculum? Surely this obvious conflict of interest, which involves trading politics for financial gain, should serve as cause for impeachment.

What's the difference between the tactics of the Springboro teachers union and Teamsters led by Jimmy Hoffa or Union Longshoremen, etc.? Not much in my opinion. They acted like the student section(Blue Crew) at basketball game during the board meeting last night. I didn't realize a professional meeting was a place for applause, booing and interruptions as if yelling at a ref.
I am not talking about all Springboro Teachers. Just the ones acting unproffesional at the meeting. If teachers have a problem with anyone it should be the voters. The BOE is doing the job the voters demanded.

WORTH REPEATING...CALL THE BOE OFFICE AND OBTAIN A COPY OF THE TAPE OF THE 2ND HALF OF THE MEETING.
The tantrum by Mr Petroni was quite entertaining and his mass appeal for WHY DIES NO ONE LIKE ME? Mrs Kull received a whiner runner up award. Mr Rigano gave everyone his home phone number. And Kelly Kohls talked forever about the grants her kids have received.
BRAVO FOLKS BRAVO! Springboro has officially elevated itself to JOKE status!

For their sponsorship of the Springboro Education Association Youth Union, certain key leaders of the SEA deserve to be either individually or collectively run out of town on a rail.
This candid brainwashing of Boro's children is a perfect example of today's liberalist-socialist values at their absolute worst.

It is interesting to note at the February 28 board meeting that two Boro parents stood to testify of the great wonders of our SEA teachers and the has been a high school principal for 12 years; neither Boro parent had a word of thanks and appreciation to our school board and district leaders for all their hard work investing in our schools, doing what's right for our school children, and their absolutely, amazingly awesome achievements during 2012!

Springboro Board of Education Highlights from 2012

Investments in our classrooms
A renewed focus on individual student success is critical as we adopt higher standards required by Ohio’s Common Core Curriculum by 2014-15 ( www.corestandards.org ). We’ve invested $350,000 in a highly acclaimed reading curriculum for first through fifth graders, added high school AP and math courses, and reduced some elementary class sizes. And this is just the beginning.

Keeping pace with technology in 2013
We are focused on preparing our students to be career and college ready, which includes encouraging digital learning. The district is working on its first comprehensive technology plan. Our five-year forecast includes $1,100,000 to bring our infrastructure up to date, go wireless in every classroom, build the technology backbone for our schools, and replace 1,100 of the district’s aging computers. This is necessary in order to equip our classrooms for the new state tests in 2014.

Innovative problem solving
Our district purchased 20 buses in 2006; however, we have not purchased any since. With no prior plan for bus purchases, we learned that our optimum fleet is 70 buses, and 20 buses will age out of our fleet in the next two to four years. With the administration, we worked to find an affordable solution that will bring 21 new buses to the district over the next five years without placing a disproportionate burden on our budget. And the district is working to revise bus routes for 2013-2014 to be more efficient and cost-effective.

Connecting the community to our schools
A Board of Education’s role is to represent the community within the school district, and transparency with our community is a priority. Our board created three committees in 2012—budget and finance, policy, and compensation and evaluation. These committees’ meetings follow Ohio’s Sunshine Laws: they are open to the public with announced meeting times and published minutes. The bridge with the community has been broadened online and on television as well. Board meeting documents are all available through the district website www.Springboro.org , and board meetings are broadcast on EATV Channel 21 through the Miami Valley Communications Council. Visit www.MVCC.net for the broadcast schedule.

Bestowing the label of excellence on districts that do little to provide for students beyond basic proficiency helps no one. Even in elite, affluent suburbs, communities are lulled into complacent acceptance of the status quo even as their children perform at a level nowhere near excellent. This phenomenon is nicely explained by Jay Greene, coauthor of
When the Best Is Mediocre:

State accountability systems and the desire to rationalize the lack of quality options have encouraged the elites to compare their affluent suburban districts to the large urban ones in their state. These inappropriate comparisons have falsely reassured them that their own school districts are doing well. This false reassurance has also perhaps undermined the desire among the elites to engage in dramatic education reform. As long as the elites hold onto the belief that their own school districts are excellent, they have little desire to push for the kinds of significant systemic reforms that might improve their districts as well as the large urban districts. They may wish the urban districts well and hope matters improve, but their taste for bold reform is limited by a false contentment with their own situation.

Radio audiences laugh at the imaginary Lake Wobegon, where ALL students are above average, but Ohio has taken things to a level that some have described as Lake Wobegon on steroids, and the damage to the educational system is becoming evident. It is Time to take an honest look at state standards and to see how these “excellent” districts are truly performing. Parents, policymakers, and the general public no longer can afford to pretend that the emperor is clothed. It is time to take a look at the ugly, naked truth about the accountability system in Ohio.– www.oagc.com

Cutting teachers pay and killing education?...such silly paronoid nonsense! Thou protesteth too much, but pray tell why?

We're learning from our school superintendent that one retiring social studies teacher will not be replaced, which eliminates one fine arts elective and industrial arts elective.

So what's the big deal? Why all this demonizing ALL those who oppose the business as usual domination of the SEA self-interest agenda of greater empowerment over our classroom teachers and school tax dollars?

Eliminate a SS teacher and 1 fine art and industrial arts cut. This makes no sense and proves you are not educated. Multiple electives in the SS department have been CUT, no industrial arts and two fine arts have been cut. Educate yourself before you come on here and post.
