Heaven help us. We can always hope her bills finally catch up with her and she finds a job to keep her busy paying them off. Oh I forgot, Miss fiscally responsible filed bankruptcy. She doesn't have to work. What would she do if not on the board?

It is rare that a school district has opportunity to elect board representatives with the financial and leadership expertise of these "three."
Special thanks and appreciation for Kelly Kohls, David Petroni and Jim Rigano!

- This school board deserves an "A" -

Since January, the new board has enshrined its “children first” philosophy in a series of 28 goals, which include setting district money aside to help prepare students for the ACT test, among other things.

The board has switched to zero-based budgeting, meaning that school budgets will not automatically increase every year. Instead, teachers are being asked to submit annual budgets outlining specific resources they need.

The board is also developing policies that prioritize district spending, to ensure that student-centered spending needs are met before employee benefits and wage increases are considered. Kohls is crafting a point system to determine which employees will receive bonuses from the leftover funds.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who engage in smear campaigns never have anything of substance to offer anyone. Where are the ideas that these people should have? Try debating the points of an issue.

If you are against open meetings and increased transparency in our operations, clubs, and organizations, please let us know why.

If you oppose putting the education of our children in front of the adults in the school system, again, let us know why.

If you are against following the policies and procedures that have been in place for a decade or more, why don't you share your concerns and reasons with us.

If you are opposed to making sure every dollar earmarked for our kids programs reaches those programs, we eagerly await your elucidation.

If you feel that the parents of extracurricular program participants of this district should pay more than their fair share, we are listening for your defense.

If you like that funds our clubs raise for our children can be run with no accounting standards. no responsibility for the money, and no oversight, let us know why that system is better.

We await, as we always do, for a reasoned response that never seems to arrive.

Bravo! You won't find a coherent response from the anti-kids first crowd because they don't have one. Typical belly-aching followed by personal attacks and innuendo.

School Board, I know at least a couple of you watch this topix website to glean info and opinions on what people in the community might think. I'd like to offer some free advice: Dont log on here anymore and ignore this site/forum completel from now on.
Why? As follows: 1. folks can post anonymously. If even 1% of these folks had to use thier real names, there would be a sea-change of civility here and less abuse. 2: The opinions shown here do not reflect any majority, just a vocal few, many of whom are either very out of balance, or just plain mentally ill. 3: You will never make everyone happy, just do what you think it best and when in doubt, ask those who give good trusted advice. 4. By replying here, you are just wasting your time, you will NEVER get a "I see what you mean and you have changed my mind" response from anyone.:)
Hope this helps, I do support some of the programs you are putting into place, and some I do not, but my respect is in place for you and I realize this is not the place to work these issues out. I encourage everyone to attend BOE meetings and speak up during the public comments section, and have your voice heard - if you have the courage to have your opinion heard by your neighbors.

Thanks to our new board and new superintendent and their agenda of transparency, we now have school leaders who are reminded that they work for the "community as a whole" and not just for the
"school district."
It is encouraging to community members to see in the August 23 Springboro Sun that our school district officials are considering complete audit; and that the board is expected to discuss the matter further at the August 28 public meeting.
Many of those who attended the August 14 board meeting agree with Todd Petrey who stated:
We're looking at across the board, both internally and externally, what's been spent. My greatest concern is what I've seen in neglect of policy...(We need to) make sure we are where we need to be...I think our public needs to know that all is clear."
...and all the people say "Amen to that." We need to get our school board business back on tract with legal and ethical established policies; and govern ourselves as such; instead of allowing the emotional opinions of a few close-knit ones in the community distort the facts and discredit our school district reputation.

Kelly Kohls traveled to Westerville last evening to support a repeal effort of our taxes. She claimed that Springboro has had 5 levies had failed yet you are all doing fine and you didn't lose any services. Is this true?

Not true.
Unless you mean is the school still open, well yes it is.
An example of lost "service" is class size. To some a larger class size is not a lost service, unless your one student in a class of 34 then you do not receive the same service as a smaller class size would.

Westerville,
Springboro lost services when the previous adminstration tried to twist the communities arm by increasing class sizes, cancelling bussing and added pay to play fees. Since a change in Leadership has taken place bussing is back, pay to play fees are way down and in time so will class sizes.
You have to understand the pro levy crowd. Get this. When bussing was cancelled in Springboro the pro levy board, superintendent, etc continued to pay the bus drivers for a year. It was all a move to intimdate the community.
You should listen to Kohls!

Those of us who believe in ourselves as responsible citizens, living within our own household budget resources, did indeed fail one, two, three, four, five school levies.
Springboro familes and taxpaying homeowners sent a clear message to our school district leaders that we rejected their fake budget crisis holding our parents hostage over things like bus transportation and excessive pay to play fees, and their lies that they was no money to buy textbooks for our children's classrooms.
Springboro families and taxpaying homeowners failed four school BEFORE Kelly Kohls came on board in 2010. Kelly Kohls was the first board member to remind the other four that the board should listen to the community BEFORE putting a fifth levy on the ballot. Kelly Kohls was right; the fifth levy failed! and in 2011 voters elected David Petroni and Jim Rigano as board representives joining Kelly Kohls new philosophy of putting out children first.
Kelly Kohls was the first vote to restore busing our students to class and putting our bus drivers back to work.
Kelly Kohls was the first vote to lower our excessive pay to play fees 25%, making it more affordable for more of our students to participate in our school's athletic program.(As concerned citizens attending public board meetings, we were
surprised to hear both our former superintendent and our current high school principal object to doing what is right for our students and parents, and our athletic program as a whole.)
Thanks to Kelly Kohls' principles of putting our kids first, these services (that were taken away from our kids in efforts to pass unnecessary school levies) WERE RESTORED!
Thank you Kelly! You stand firmly on strong principles in the best interests of our school children and our community as a whole; and your service to our schools and community is appreciated!
We are excited about good things we see happening at our school board meetings and trust in the direction for our children's future in which our new board and new supperintendent are leading!
We Love Springboro!
