This is hilarious (although the background to the story is a sad one). I feel sorry for this poor suspect who was completely humiliated. Nice how the news splashed his mugshot all over the internet and probably print. Can you say"Slander"? I'm sure there is some law that protects the newspapers from the false allegations that they inferred.
I hope this guy can take this false accusation in stride. Tech geeks, UNITE!

As sad as the back story is, this is ridiculous. This guy became "belligerent" with the police saying he 'didn't have to speak to them"! Guess what!?! He doesn't!! it's mistaken identity but if this guy is innocent and minding his own business then why would he be cooperative when the police are arresting him for an MSU? For you that don't know, MSU, is cop lingo for "make Sh!t up"! Disorderly conduct? Resisting without violence? BS. Imagine this, you are minding your own business going out shopping and cops grab you and start arresting you for violent murders. How would you react? How do you think the cops reacted that were arresting him,? I'm not saying cops shouldn't do their jobs, but what are we supposed to do? Outlaw floppy hats? Sunglasses? ponytails? it's just sad all around but what gets me is the police arrest and CHARGE this guy for a crime simply because he was doing what any of us would do if we were innocent of the accusations. And that is tell them we know nothing, question our "arrest" and express our disgust.

MichiganState, I was saying the exact same thing in a different thread about this.
The whole circumstance under which he got arrested on the "MSU" charges is that they had the wrong guy in the first place.
When you are where you know you have a right to be, and you know (because you haven't committed any crimes!) that no one should be wanting to arrest you, you're gonna be angry when someone comes and accuses you! You're gonna be ~bewildered~, too! So your next actions might not be the most well-planned, nor characteristic of a calm person.
The police should be FORGIVING this guy, APOLOGIZING to him, and DROPPING THE CHARGES. That is, unless he struck them. If he didn't do that, he should be 100% off the hook.

Is EVERY guy with a pony tail at a mall and that matches the description going to be arrested until "the Boca lady says it's not him." I understand the police are DESPERATELY trying to solve this TERRIBLE crime. But.... stepping on a man's civil rights while shopping in the mall is wrong. PLEASE make sure the Boca lady is always available to ID every person dragged in. I hope she doesn't have any summer vacation plans, we need her HERE to ID everyone. The murders were aTERRIBLE crime, so was the made up charges on this poor pony tail guy shopping.

The media has a dirty hand in this as well. The news teams with their cameras converge on the guy's home where he lives with his mother, and they start asking her "how do you feel?" and she's crying and the neighbors have to shield her from the cameras. Disgusting. What is wrong with the media? It's like a witch hunt. Horrible, and no apology, probably gave the old lady a heart attack.

But I wonder how many people convicted him in this on line forum.. Instead of following the person and setting up surveillance on a potential suspect they just jump to conclusions and trump up some charges just so they have a reason to interrogate him.. And did he have an attorney by his side during the interview?

All this incident accomplished was to tip-off the real killer that the police are looking at all the area malls. The big trend in investigation is to peruse video cams to locate the most probable suspects. Other than that the police wait by the phone for a call. People need to realize that personal security is an individual responsibility. That when seconds count the police are minutes away. Rather than settle for the capture of a killer long after the crime, how about preventing the attack to begin with? If you are a potential victim (a woman or a woman with a child) don't go to a mall without the proper protection. Basically, this means to obtain the training needed and a carry permit, and to buy a gun and use it if required. Otherwise, you are just another victim on an ever expanding list of statistics because the killer is still out there, biding his time and watching. Think about it while you still have the time. Thanks.

Shame to the media for jumping the gun and putting him and his mother through such an ordeal. Why couldn't they check the facts first and then act. I know both people for at least 8 years and thhe young man may seem quiet, introvert and strange to some he could not hurt a fly. He has to take the bus to move around town as he does not own a car.Thats what he was doing probably at the Aventura mall, he was going to get the bus from that terminal. Shame to some of his neigbours making some not so nice comments. I thought some TV channels were staying away from sensationalism, I guess not. Apologies should be in order from all those TV stations that swarmed their residence. What happened with the innocent until proven guilty saying. I guess it does not apply to them. Having lived and worked in the Aventura area I know how trigger happy the police there is so I am not surprised that he reacted the way he did . wouldn't you? They should drop their charges and apologize for the character assasination they caused. No excuse for all this. Were are our rights. I guess in this country at this time are non existent.

I appreciate that the SunSentinel did this article. When I saw the video of the man coming into the mall,I was haunted very much by it.It was a striking resemblance of some one I know. But the minute they got the side profile of this guy in full length, than I had my doubts. But for a minute it did look like him. What was the misdeamor charge???I am sure he could have told the officers he did not want the video shown And maybe out of the embarassment they can work out a deal with his misdeamor charge. I appreciate that at some point that he did cooperate. And it should be a warning to all of the malls in Dade,Broward and Palm Beach . But he may start stalking his next victim out of very nice grocery stores. And the families do deserve to find the perpetrator and get justice for what he did.It is someone who hates women and how could he do that to a beautiful little girl?????!!!!!

I really hope this person get the best lawyer in Dade/Broward County and sues the Police and News Media for false arrest, slander and every thing else they can tack on. Some store clerk thought they saw someting. What a Farce. No one is safe any more from these idiots. A tip to every one involved, print a retraction and apology(TV and Print). For the Police ,clear this man's record ASAP and print a written and verbal apology in both Print and Television. Perhaps this will prevent a Major Lawsuit.

In fairness to police, we should realize there are pathetic souls, desparate for attention, who will purposely make themselves up to look like the man on the poster just to get a few seconds of notoriety.
This is a modern day version of that old-time quiz show " To Tell the Truth ". One of them is real, the other imposters.
We've all seen the morons who parade around with their pitbull with spiked collar trying to scare folks for kicks. If you're a sicko without a pit bull, you can get the same effect by dressing like a wanted man and parading around in public. Can't blame the cops if you get their attention.

I believe in the publics right to know but what happened with this poor guy is sick. I don't blame the police they are just doing their job, I blame the media for thinking they are God. To go to his mom's house and make herr cry when they did not even know if he did it was disgusting. We as society have given the media way to much freedom. All they care about is the story not the lives they shatter while getting it. The longer they get away with ruining innocent people's lives the greater the chance it could be you or someone you know next.

Shortly before noon Friday, a store clerk at the Aventura Mall called security to report a customer resembled a sketch of the Town Center suspect. Mall security called police, who tried to question Bodek, but police said he became unruly.
BS, you simply arrested him on phony charges the cops trumped up, standard operating procedure in Florida
