The new mexican president has vowed to end the war on drugs that is killing so many and added very little value. American consumption is at an all time high. We are fighting wars in the middle east, not seeing that there is a real threat here south of us. The war on drugs has been a collosal failure in the USA and Mexico is showing that it serves no purpose but to put people on the payroll, which is hard when you got no money. In the USA, Barry just goes to the printer and hits the print money button.

Prohibition in the 20s was a massive waste of moeny as is this war on drugs. Legalize this crap, reduce the crime rate and charge taxes like tobacco and alcohol.

I agree finally. Stop prohibition. Let people kill themselves, loose all their teeth and look like they are 50 years old when they are actually 23. But an ugly 50 year old.

For those that want to do drugs do not give them medical treatment associated with drug use. Give them counseling with the money derived from taxes and profit. In the animal world the strong survive. Drug users are weak and get weaker until they die. Sorry, but they know they are committing slow suicide in many cases. We are the smarter animals, Right? Well maybe not some.

No country, Mexico, the USA or any country is going to stem their use of drugs. You might slow it down if you offer the death penalty for vendors in some countries, but that will never happen in a "quote unquote" civilized world. Look at smokers. They are killing themselves and destroying their bodies inside and out. If they are dumb enough to do it let them. They are adults and it is their decision, so long as they do not pass the costs of their stupidity on to non-users.

My take is that the drug war has given these poor Mexican thugs a feeling of power and their ability to steal, demand and rob people with impunity. They will not give this up to starve and wither on the streets. Why would they. They have money and drugs and drive fancy stolen cars. Stopping the drug flow means turning to other sources for money even if it does not make them as much. They still will be able to rob people for money, drive nice stolen Cadillac's and trucks, Steal gas from the government, extort people and business, kidnap people for money, Human smuggling, kidnapping young girls and putting them out for prostitution, rob banks for money, rob people with buses full of people as happened to one of our friends, rule communities through fear and intimidation, and more.

In fact she saw one of the guys that robbed the entire bus, and told all her bosses and associates that it was one the three guy's that robbed them. They gave her some smart advice. Do not call the police, or do anything. Because she would have lost her life and all of her children's lives later. She had to watch him walk because of corrupt police, a court system take cannot convict them, and a government that will not protect them.

Prohibition will help the economy, reduce violence in the USA, and the money can be used to educate people at an early age. But I poor pity the innocent people of Mexico. They do not deserve what I think will happen to them.

Look at the group of thugs that raped the underage girls at a Christian camp the other day, and robbed and beat everyone. Cops were involved with the gang. The innocent Mexican people cannot bend over to pick up a peso in any direction without someone wanting to stick it to them. Who can they trust to help them. The government will not let them arm themselves so they are sitting ducks for anyone that wants to take whatever they want and when they want to with little or no resistance.

U r right on. Of course, the mexican pres was talked into waging the war on drugs by the bush admin. Just look at all the money that u can confiscate, cars, drugs, control, etc. The sad part is that no one is willing to just hand over the drugs or the power. People here like drugs and how they make them feel. You can make drugs for getting high out of a lot of household chemicals, maybe we should wage the war on household chemicals. As a country, we better worry seriously from a national security pt ofview what ois going on south of the border. We control all of their oil, natrual resources and labor, but that can change and become a threat.
