Do concealed-carry laws lead to increased gun violence? The Violence Policy Center counts 319 people killed by concealed-handgun permit-holders, although it’s hard to know what role, if any, the permits played in those killings. Crime is complex. But common sense needn’t be: More hidden guns increase the potential for violence, and that can’t be good.

Last time I looked at The Violence Policy Center website those numbers were for a 5 year period. The gang bangers in Chicago shoot that many people a year. Time to try to put another twist on this story...
319/5 = 64 victims per year

Some of the shootings could be justifiable self defense.

The antigun crusader and their organizations (the VPC) are trying to disarm 'we the people' while trying to expand the number of pigs (create a police state). This may be a benefit to society, but I can say from personal experience the police have been harassing me now for decades. On top of that, my opinion is that most multiple victim shooting rampages are deliberately instigated by police (including shootings involving kids). Local police where I live (Westmont, Illinois) have vandalized my property and harassed me and my family relentlessly. And police all across the country can control any entity because most people will do anything police force them to do.

Nothing good ever comes from disarming people. Gun control creates thousands of victims of assault, theft, and murder, and does not stop or reduce crime. Police are the biggest sponsors of gun control. It becomes the proof that pigs lie and ignore laws. Pigs lie to justify gun control laws.

IIRC, some of the shooting ARE self-defense. And others are people who died, but just happened to have a gun. No shots fired, no-one shot, death had nothing to do with firearms, but the Brady bunch lumps it into their "gun-related death" stat pool.

I think it was either Lott or Kleck who exposed this scheme to inflate their numbers.

From the article "The Police Foundation says the bill, if enacted, will endanger the lives of police officers, who would have no way of distinguishing legitimate out-of-state gun permits from fraudulent ones." Hey whats the matter with you guys? You forgot to mention your usual dribble about "Wild West Shoot-outs in the streets" and "Road Rage shoot outs".

Another misguided statement "The Major Cities Chiefs Association, another police group, calls the legislation “dangerous and unconstitutional.”" Unconstitutional????????? Every time I read the CONSTITUTIONAL Second Amendment, it reads the same....the RIGHT of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Seems to me "The Major Cities Chiefs Association" needs a lesson on American History and the INDIVIDUAL freedom and liberty the Second Amendment insures.

Schumer & Bloomberg must have their panties in a wad over this. New York in itself is a criminal enterprise when it comes to the right to own a handgun. If you can pass an instant background check there should be no reason you can not own a handgun in New York... New York is "May Issue" which leave it up to the judge in the county you reside in to either grant or deny a pistol permit...

The 319 killings are suicides, murders, and includes Loughner's shooting in Arizona and he didn't have a permit.

But if you take the data they gave, which includes some individuals who didn't have a permit and use it.

6 million permit holders over 4 years comes out to 319 killings

That is 1.3 deaths per 100,000 permit holders
The gun death rate for non-permit holders is 10 per 100,000, which includes suicides also.

So it seems that CHL holders are the most stable people on this planet given that their suicide rate is below 1.3 per 100,000 while the rest of the USA is 11.1. But murder and self defense killings are included in that 1.3.

Suicide rate in the USA is 11.1 per 100,000

VPC is doing a good job showing us that a group of people who have guns on them all the time, who are 100% gun owners, do not commit suicide or murders. This shows us that it is not the gun that causes suicides or murder.

Keep up the good work VPC in showing people that concealed carry permits were a smart idea.
