Obviously by the small turnout at the School Board meeting these "religious leaders" don't have alot of backing. In a perfect world maybe people would abstain from sex if not in an acceptable relationship. But this isn't a perfect world and no matter how much parents preach, some kids are going to do whatever they want. I think it's much more reasonable to offer birth control than to have children who are in homes where they are unwanted, or the family can't afford to take care of them. So is it better to offer the opportunity for these people to show some responsibility or is it better to take away the opportunity and have many more unwanted/uncared for children...whom I doubt very much these religious leaders have any intention of taking in or supporting. Why not find souls that want to be saved instead of shoving opinions down throats of people who are just trying to find solutions to problems that have been and will be ongoing. Sure it'd be great if Planned Parenthood was never needed, but birthcontrol not only prevents unwanted births it also can prevent the spread of diseases that kill.

The opportunity to show responsibilty would have been to not have sex unless they're ready to have a child. When are people going to see this debate for what it is. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions. Don't want the possibility of a kid = don't have sex. These so called "problems" that need "solutions" are self-inflicted. It's not about shoving opinions down someone's throat, it's about stopping the killing of innocent babies because someone couldn't practice a little self control. I'd much rather be in the position of defending those babies than people who should know better and just choose to behave ignorantly. But by all means, let's make it easier for kids to have worry-free sex. That's exactly what we all need.
Oh, and if you think PP is about birthcontrol, you're sorely mistaken. They're about 1 thing...abortions.

Since they WON'T be doing abortions in Marlin, then they aren't just about abortion.
And in your little fantasy world where everyone KNOWS right from wrong and always make the right decisions, where do those who ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE fit in..because they are getting pregnant too. So not only are they getting pregnant, then they have more children who aren't taught to be responsible, then they have more. When do we face the fact the people are HUMAN, and many do stupid irresponsible things, so even if they aren't trying to prevent pregnancy, if they just prevent the spread of disease that will be a step in the right direction.
Bottom line is, it's a free country. You may be opposed to it for your children, wonderful, if you're children are as responsible as you are. But MANY other children aren't getting guidance like you imply your child would receive. There's no way YOU or even a group of you can go out and keep everyone from have unprotected sex and unwanted pregnancy. So why not let the people who want to used Planned Parenthood use it...and the ones who don't not use it.
I would surely PREFER my kids NOT have premarital sex and save themselves. But I know that out of 4 kids, I'll probably be lucky if 1 stays a virgin. So I'd rather know that IF they choose to have sex, whether I approve or not, that they aren't going to be bringing another little person into this world..into a home possibly with just 1 parent..into a home with an immature parent.
There are just so many factors that could apply, and each case would be different. So I say let each of us be responsible for our own actions and choices, after all in the end we will each stand alone to answer for what we did or didn't do and stop trying to force upon others things that just push them further from God and religion as opposed to closer.
