I think it would be great to bring back a drive-in theatre to Metropolis. I believe it could draw a lot of happy people(the one in Calvert City, Ky is quite popular. It would give us more to do.

I don't think it will ever happen, but would be great if it did.

They should put the drive-in there in the open field at Dead Man's Curve. That is where the "El Capitan" Theatre wasso many years ago. Let's pass the word around and try to get this!

It certainly would be much better and more beneficial than the old Massac Theater which quite frankly I am sick and tired of looking at day in and day out. What is Savethemassac.org doing with the funds that they have raised for this restoration project? Nothing that I can see. I sincerely hope that money isn't going into someone's own pocket.

With all that is available on TV free of local censors I doubt a drivein could make it.

I disagree with you. Drive in theaters are great nostalgia for a lot of folks. It reminds them of the good years. Most drive-in theaters that are currently in business do very well for themselves. Isn't there one in Calvert City?

Yes, there is a very successful drive-in in Calvert City. It is a fun thing to see a movie there on a weekend or any night during the summer. Admission is cheap and food is great. Friendly people run the concession at fair prices. I believe we could bring the same here. It sure would be great if we did!

Years ago I knew that Kennedy Housemovers owned the open field at Deadman's Curve, I wonder who owns it now? Does anyone know?

Yeah there are tons of channels on TV in HD. But that doesn't compare to the experience of a drive-in. I say go for it metrogal

Ideas like a drive-in, fun park, or a zoo are all good and would probably do well, But like many new business here they only do well for a little while and the "NEW" wears off and then there are buildings and structures that remain for years for sale at outrageous prices. Production Press was a great example of that till the city took it over. Dont get me wrong Im all for prosperity when it can be made.

True but..
Everyone likes movies
movies will always be around and in demand
it would save people gas rather than going to KY
admission to drive ins are generally cheaper
..you could always rent an inflatable one, get in contact with the field owner, run an ad in the paper and try it out one weekend... see what happens from there

Yes I agree it would be better than driving to KY, and a drive in would be awesome, especially a 3D screen. 3D movies are becoming popular again and I believe they would do well here.
Just saying "NEW" attractions do well for a while, maybe even a few years but sooner or later the "newness" dies off and business starts dwindling.

Shirley Temple only made so many movies. Let a Church build drivins as they have plenty of money. Also they would have free volunteers to see that the kids only hold hands.

Movie projectors for something like this are very expensive. Not to mention you'd have to have concessions. Someone would have to have lots of money for something like this.
