The ban on conceal to carry was shot down today. Now it's time for Lawmakers to get busy and write a bill for change.

Law says they have 180 days, but something tells me they will strech it out a lot longer.

I don't think they can stretch that 180 days out. The bad thing is (and I've read this on an NRA site) Illinois may charge an exorbitant price for the permit. They may charge a couple of thousand of dollars to apply. I have an out-of-state permit so I know you have to take a permit class and do range time (I paid $100.00). Illinois anti-gun lawmakers may make this part of getting a permit a pain in the ass. I hope they pass a 'castle doctrine' along with conceal carry.

I read somewhere that our illustrious, Democrat run, legislature is looking into making the fee so high that most citizens will not be able to afford it.

I guess that's OK as long as the Chicago politicians and their bodyguards can have concealed weapons cheaply (oh yeah, that's right, they already do).

If they do nothing, anyone with a foid card can carry which is the way it should be. If you can own a gun should you not be able to carry it?

I carry a .45. You can't beat the knockdown power of a .45. But you can control multiple shots better with a .40.

I have an XD-.45. That gun holds a 13 shot clip, not a 5 shot clip. But thats a good weapon selection for protection. The Colt 1911 is another reliable firearm. The XD-S is too small for accurately placing shots. If you keep miss then you might as well throw a rock at them. A firearm with a 5" inch barrel would serve you better. They are harder to conceal, but if you give the a criminal the hint you are packing a gun then that just may be deterrent enough for a potential criminal to leave you alone. That's what it's all about anyway. Nobody WANTS to shoot a somebody!

I'm going for both conceal-ability and firepower. I want the element of surprise.

A. 40 conceals nicely AND has all the knock down power you need!! That's why the Feds switched to it.

After todays tragic event in Conn. We need to look at some form of gun control. Something has to be done, we as gun owners cannot let things like this continue. I would give up my right to own high cap. guns to save a childs life. I am in favor of concealed carry. But that will be endangered if we ever have a national vote on it.

You, as a gun owner, know that the gun didn't do the tragic things that took place today. I don't understand the issue of high capacity weapons to save a child. What? And I still beleive if it came to a vote nationwide, conceal carry would be voted into law. What are they going to do, outlaw crazy people? This guy was either crazy or high on drugs.

As William S. Burroughs once said:“After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it.”

I believe I'll get the extended 7-shot magazine with integral grip extension for the XD-S. That way I'll have the capacity of a full size .45 in a gun that is still very concealable.

If the teachers had been armed, he wouldnt have been nearly as successful. Banning anything doesnt stop it. Fully automatic weapons, cocaine, heroin, meth, all illegal yet they can be found everywhere.

That Burrough guy was pretty smart. And that is a good choice of firearm. You can't beat a company like Springfield Armory. They are the ones that built the M1 Garand rifle (and a few more firearms) for the military.

I was Carrying and XD subcompact 40 but moved to the sig sauer P238 because it is easier to hide. I am glad that in the next year we may be able to legally concealed carry in the great state of Illinois.LOL But those of you who travel to Kentucky Indiana and other states you can get a Florida non-resident concealed carry license so that you can carry concealed in 32 states but not the great stat of Illinois. Almost forgot it is not the size of the gun but as long as you are carrying one.

Same reason I chose the P238 in the.40 cal. Excellent concealment with more stopping power than a 9mm. I believe now the caliber of choice for Federal agencies after the Miami incident.
