Metropolis powerless to stop strip club

METROPOLIS, Ill. a ' Mayor Billy McDaniela TMs signature on a petition lacks the authority to stop the Metro Pony strip club from opening within city limits.

The City is far from powerless where respect for the law is concerned. Why has a Tenn lawyer been hired to dream up ordiances that will hamper the operation of the adult entertainment establishment?

The Mayor/Liquor Commissioner gives the liquor license and then turns around and signs a petition against the strip club. Sounds to me like he is trying to play both sides of the fence.

Statesmen are not elected in Metropolis. Only stooges for special interest groups. The state should send a special administrater here to see to it state and Federal laws only are enforced. 1000 brainwashed people out of just over 5000 residents that signed the useless piece of paper should be a wake up sign.

That property was annexed into the City when Woodhaven was annexed. So it is in the city limits

Its not that the City is powerless, the liquor license should have never been issued and if the owner really wanted a strip club in Metropolis then he would have had to spend the money to fight the current ordinance in a Court of Law (which would not have happened) but since Rick and Andy Clark are friends with him and the Mayor is a moron the license was issued and the current ordinance is being ignored. The only other reason I can think of for it not being turned down is that the Legal Counsel for the City is to Lazy or to Incompetent to mount a defense on behalf of the Citizens of Metropolis, so instead he along with the Mayor took the easy way out, blaming it on the Constitution....see kind of a pattern here....everything is someone elses or something elses fault when it comes to the Mayor and the Legal Counsel defense of their actions....I have never in my life seen such ignorance by such "educated" people! Wake up Metropolis or be destroyed while you sleep, the choice is yours!

All of the Churches in town are getting together to protest the strip club but yet they are not down at the river boat protesting the gambling. Why is that? Is it because the boat brings in lots of money to the city and lots of people in there congregations are employees? Or is it that Metropolis is full of hypocrites. Just a question

Back when the Player's boat was in discussions with the City, and the State, the churches DID protest, and heavily, both at the City Hall and Counsel, also down at the river front, but to no avail. The leaders at that time of the city where voting it in, and by doing a few things for the community at first they approved the plan, this to somewhat pacify the leaders of the churches in the area,(a compromise of sorts) but on the outside many were saving face in public by being "disgusted" with the outcome! With many of those leaders gone today, moved away, went to another church, or left the church all together, or are getting older; or maybe, just maybe they are waiting for a new generation to stand forward and take on the fight.....either way.... made a huge mistake back then. The compromise was wrong then, and it is wrong now!
I know this stuff might offend some but it must be said from that younger generations point of view...now this younger generation that I am a part of,(the generation that were 20 to 24 y/o. when then boat got here); tell me, when was the last time you have seen the Hand of God move in the City, had opportunity offered to you by any of these leaders of the church or the Counsel? When?
He is the only one who can help this City; our leaders of today, ignore the truth that they claim to be in them! They are much like the ones back then!
Different names, different parties but the same perversions of what they profess to be the truth! I am not judging hearts, but I am judging FRUIT! Not fighting for the truth, means fighting for the lie, and we know who the "Father of Lies" is, right?
Does anyone really believe this is what is best for Metropolis, a few less than savory jobs available, along with the even further degradation of our City to the surrounding communities of Souther Ill. OUR leaders ought to be ashamed of themselves for calling themselves Christians, but then doing what is not right for the WHOLE of the Community! When did the Minority begin to RULE the Majority, when?
Look whether you an active Christian, or just a sideline believer, you know this is wrong! Look God not only judges a person while on this earth, we are judged as Individuals, households, communities, cities, states and Nations, and eventually the world, the It' Finished" judgement.
So as the individual continues in wrong, they receive the reward their "actions" and "real beliefs" deserve. The ones that are promised!
Its simple, when we as an Individual, household, communities, cities, states, and Nations, do this same behavior,now, as done before, we will receive in ourselves, in our communities, ect... what is promised! We either stand for what is RIGHT or we stand for what is WRONG...and eventually our choices begin to define who we are until we fall.
Metropolis has been falling for the last 25 or 30 years! Although I still LOVE this place, I am perplexed at how, men can claim one thing but practice something else? I mean none of us are perfect, but we are to KNOW what to "stand for" when we claim to be a Christian, but our actions reflect something totally different than what we espouse, something is wrong! Where are the "True Christians of the Counsel" Stand up, Speak out!
Are you seeing much leadership from anyone, the politician claim powerlessness, the Church is being ignored, for some reason...any thoughts on why that is Pastors and congregations...what is the Churches only weapon?
In the Bible there's a historical story that "plays out" for the Non-Christian people's promises for their Community when they choose to ignore, or choose to join/support a UN_TRUTHFUL Counsel decision "not fight" against this business! Here it is very simple; if you know the story of Jacob and Laban, if not it takes a minute to read, but pay close attention to what Laban says in chapter 30;27...

Laban said to Jacob "if I have found favor in your eyes; please stay. I learned through divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you." Laban a Non-Believer, KNEW that his blessings could only be attributed to Jacob, a True Believer! Laban Knew when Jacob was gone, so were the blessings....the truth holds today...when the Christian is gone, or the True Believer is gone for whatever the reason maybe , typically death or selfishness...the vacuum will be filled. What is filling OUR vacuum?
Is the Christian powerless, because obviously the Christian City Leaders say they are powerless. we as a community are prayerless, which is the strength of OUR Power....Wake Metropolis, Wake Up, Please for our children's sake, our grand children's sake. The Choices made today will determine our tomorrow, for Christian and Non-Christian alike!

wow! You've got too much time on your hands. Get off your high horse and create some jobs in your crappy little town. Everyone is a critic but what have you done to help Metropolis. Remember churches have a hard time keeping the doors open without its members money. Keep protesting, voting and bible thumpin any and all business and ideas that come you guys way. We will take all your business and residents on this side of the river.

You can stand on your pulpit on sunday's and preach all day but it all comes down to this " The Church is a business period " if it is in the Bible as you stated there is no compromise. First off I don't have a pulpit, I am not a preacher or anything of the sorts, but I can read and I can see and I can hear....and the hypocrites in this situation are the ones who claim to be one way by their lips, but another by their lifestyles, their choices, their votes, or by any other way that defines who they really are other than what they claim. Being a Christian is more than saying you are, it is living everyday what you profess in public to be, mistakes aside, blatantly ignoring the truth puts us in the middle of the lie!
As far as taking all the business that come our way, you can have them if this is the only type of business that come our way, through the leadership we have! I for one would rather this business go somewhere else...
As far the church being a business, thats the problem with the churches today. To many worried about attendance and tithes instead of the community outside their four walls. Their trust is in the almighty dollar instead of the Almighty God! God loves us all but He does expect us to live a certain way and that way was exampled by Christ....He also promises certain things to us based on the choices we make! Is this a good choice for the Community, I don't think so, and anybody who loves this community and who holds to the truth will see that it is actually harmful to the community! These type of business destroy the fabric of a community in many ways, but does little to nothing to uplift or support a community. The tax dollars we make off this are nothing compared to the lives it will destroy in the process.
