Wow wonder what the classic fire truck cost
I believe it cost $75,000 to refurbish the old fire truck. The building it is housed in probably cost $200,000.

<quoted text>HELLO!!! Where the fuck you been man? This shit has been going on ever since Billy got in office. People on the Titanic didn't believe the ship was sinking until they were underwater. That's what's going on in Metropolis, now. Billy himself said on tv the other day that Casino receipts are going down, but the city spending isn't. And I've noticed they haven't done or said anything about their executive health insurance policies [which we use to be able to afford, but now we can't]. Somebody is going to have to give in and I'll wager it won't be the mayors office or the city council. Shameful.
if you knew just a little about what you were talking about,it wouldnt be so bad, but you are a complete ass that only wants to start crap, have you jumped on the county commissioners yet about how many trucks they have???

The county commissioners do not have any say at all about how many fire trucks the county has. They are their own taxing district. County residents fund the co fire Sept with I believe 2% of their property taxes. Commissioners only appoint fire district board members.

I think the issue here wasnt whether or not the county provides them, infact I think everyone is glad there is plenty of them ,the problem is these idiots who want to blame anything and everything on those who make the decisions, the bigger problem is they are gutless citizens who can only voice their discontent on topix, none of them ever have the balls to do it to a public officals face or even in a public meeting, they only feel big and bad on topix.

I totally agree with you larry. It takes several fire trucks and even more firefighters to safely and effectively put out fires and perform rescues. Something the average citizen really does not understand and probably never will unless they try to educate themselves.. it's just easier to point fingers and gossip on topic.

I'm not gutless or an idiot. It's the money thing fool. The fire station and the new police station was two of the most expensive buildings Metro has built in years. I think the police station has been long over due. They have operated out of some real dumps.[Even though I think it should have been built in a more centralized location.] But the new fire station is totally over the top! They spent too much money on the property, the trucks, the museum with the old firetruck and the professional firefighting team. Read the Planet every week and there MAY be two fires in Metropolis a week. We may come out ahead if we let the dwelling burn and just build them another one. But the paper goes on to say that they installed 5 baby seats. How nice. All I'm saying is we CAN cut corners in Metropolis but nobody has the gonades to start. And I still think that a downgrade of some insurance policies would be a great savings since those policies cost Massac County taxpayers somewhere in the neighborhood of $500,000.00. That's a lot of zeros.

Fire prevention works! They sure saved the Body Shop on 6th street this weekend. Just because you don't care for the decisions of the Administration, don't blame the workers. I bet they didn't ask the policemen or the firemen where they wanted their buildings built. Cut back on the police and fire and then you can complain about your insurance premiums going up. Mine are high enough without you taking care of me.

and do you think we can do something about it after the projects are already done, what do you propose genius? take down the fire station and build a smaller one? will that satisfy your desire to run the city and county from behind door number 3? And do you feel in your heart that we can honestly change things by coming on TOPIX and complaining, then there is no reason to be talking to you.

The new police station is a rat maze of offices and rooms and does not contain a cell to incarcerate anyone.

So it's state law for county to house city prisoners. Really.

Election time is coming and people can remember this along with other projects like the multiple baseball fields extravaganza (thanks Bill Carroll). Metropolis (if we had some forward looking people taking care of the city) we could have saved millions by putting BOTH the fire station and police station across from Metropolis Drugs (you know, there along "The American Way",[ but most down-to-earth people call 5th Street]). I still can't understand, if they aren't going to have ball games there anymore, then why not clear all the fences away and put it up for sale for, lets say, maybe a business. And why hide all our new construction on back streets where visitors can't see the progress of the town that cost our taxpayers so dearly?

Then if you know who I am, you also know not to call me stupid to my face. Right? You're always defending the court house and the city hall, right, wrong or indifferent. And I think that the citizens that pay your salary deserve better representation than what they get now. Our city is going backward not forward. And there is no one else to blame except the people that make the decisions in Metropolis. Am I right? Wrong? indifferent? I really think that YOU and your kind are classic examples of all that is wrong with our society and Metropolis. It's a lot easier to spend someone else's money.
