A large number of county residents attended a meeting tonight to voice there concerns about the cities plan to enforce zoning ordinances within a mile and a half of the city limits. The biggest concern had to do with the fact that there are no county citizens serving on the zoning board. Some county residents stated that they did not want the city managing there business when there was so much wrong with the city.

A good point was made today by Mary Kotter. She stated that the Kotters made an offer on the old Laidlaw property, only to have the city buy it and then donate it to a non-profit organisation. Isn't it time the city stopped trying to control all business in the city? Look at all the property the city has bought that has hurt our taxing bodies.

Hey, maybe she should sue someone, I hear that is what some of Massacs finst citizens do, I even heard a story today up at the good old boys club for breakast about a local business man who even sued his Father because he couldnt run his business very well and needed the money. Wow how low can one go?so this sort of thing doesnt surprise me at all.I did read in the Planet that the non profit organization has bought the property. So it was not given to them.

They didn't even bid on the property, besides who wants all that scrap steel right in front of the part. I wish the city would have not allowed them to bring that operation into town , it is a eyesore and a dusty mess.

What is the county residents complaining about anyway. I guess they have forgotten all of the tax money they took out of their account and just gave it to the county, and just to set the record straight the mile and a half buffer zone has been in effect fro the past 40 to 50 years, and there were no problems. I for one think the county need to worry about something else they can't change the law that allows the city to have the buffer zone they have. By the way the reason this buffer zone is even being brought up is the Mayor of Metropolis is scared another strip club could locate right out side the city limits other wise this whole revamping of these ordinances would never been done

The county has no right to say anything about the zoning ordinance. It is the city of Metropolis's ordinance not the County's. And far as Mr. Webber goes I would like to ask you Did the city not give the county 3,000,000 or 4,000,000.00 over the 10 to 12 years and why didn't you tell the city to mind their own business then? Talking about ungrateful people The people of Massac should go hide their faces after acting the way they did in both of the public hearings.

Damn guy!! Can't we help our neighbors, friends and family? They should have been reaping the benefits from the boat from day one anyway. If the county would have gotten more money and the city had got less money, we may ALL be doing better. The mayor/Rick and the city council is totally void of any common sense, when it comes to budgeting money. I think someone is about to get caught with their hand in the 'cookie jar'. I can just about figure out who it will be. Any nominees?

The city should have proposed this zoning deal when they were still giving money to the county. What did the city get for all the money they gave the county? I have been told that a lot of people in the courthouse got raises during that time.

This zoning ordinance is to control the Pony or any other businesses like the Pony from coming to the Metropolis Area, and the Pony came around after the city stop giving money to the county. I hope this topic is brought up when the council votes on this ordinance and I want to see just how fast the Mayor pounds his gavel and stop to defend the council when it is his idea from the start.

Well Jerry I will have to say that you do not have your facts straight on your timetable. The Pony came about in December of 2010 and the monies that was being sent to the County was voted on and stopped in 2011 budget, so I have to ask you what are you trying to say? That a business like the Pomy will generate monies for the County? if so then why haven't the County commisionersa contacted The Pony's owner and asked him to relocate to the county where they can enjoy the windfall of revenue he brings in??????????
