I hope that "going forward" was added in a previous year. "Going forward" and "it is what it is" are so OVERused in the business world. They are such a waste of time. Bleeh!

I hope they've had, or will have, "at the end of the day," the phrase that most annoys me for being empty of content, but is used around the globe, not just in the U.S. No sentence with it is changed by removing it!

You might as well ban every word in the English language! "It" is used more than those other words and phrases. "What, in, who, etc.," are used more often, as well. This whole idea of banning words and phrases that are over used is ridiculous. I have no doubt this list was begun by a group of people unwilling to accept change. There are many words whose meanings have changed over time. Are the maker's of this list insisting that we can no longer use the word surge in reference to electricity, just because it is used too much otherwise?

How about the word "got"!? People use that one too much! How about when people say, "eksetra"!? The correct word is actually two words-- et cetera. People also say, "He seen," or, "He's seen." Let us correct improper grammar before we worry about over-used phrases!

I wouldn’t go quite as far as Beatrice. However, I WOULD remove all bastardised American words from the English language & leave the Americans to their own version of spoken & written language which should be called American & not be foisted on the rest of the world as the language of choice, particularly when it comes to spell-checkers etc in computer software. Then, I wouldn’t care if I read that Kevin Federline is going to “depose” Britney (which isn’t going to happen) when what he means is that Britney is going to have to be present at court for a deposition hearing, because I would hope that the word would stay in the American language and not find its way into English. The two words have completely different etymology.
But let’s not stop there – I’m heartily sick & tired of hearing about missals and fissal material. The words are missiles and fissile, respectively (after all, a missal is a liturgical book of the Catholic Church (quote “The Roman Missal (in Latin, Missale Romanum) is the liturgical book that contains the texts and rubrics for the celebration of the Mass in the Roman Rite of the Roman Catholic Church.”– Wikepedia)). I realise that this is probably a “futall”(not sure what the phonetic spelling of that should be, but for those who don’t recognise what I’m saying, the correct spelling and sound is “futile”) attempt to change things, but at least I’ve said what I wanted to say. One final gripe – why do you Americans persist in saying “off of”? You might conceivably use an “off from” but surely a simple “off” is all you need?

Back in the day, when I was a wordsmith, there was a perfect storm of these kind of words and phrases. Before waterboarding was cool, pre 9/11, I was an organic linquistical genius. It was what it was back then, now there is a sweet return to the wordsmithing (that some think is decimating out lanquage) that I love so much. I think it is awesome! You should set up a webinar so that we can all get together and surge the language into the new millineum and kick all the naysayers under the bus.
After all, wordsmithing is the new linquisticing.

I was disappointed that 'amazing' was not on the list. For celebrities, this word has replaced every adjective on the planet (ie: wonderful, terrific, fabulous, remarkable, incredible, phenomenal, beautiful, great). You cannot listen to a single talk show interview without hearing 'amazing' a minimum of six times. There is not that much in this world that is truly 'amazing.'
