I think it took about a week or so to get the invite, I wouldn't worry they are probably just waiting to fill up their list of applicants and schedule the groups.
I would recommend using your time now to study for the test, the best book I found is called "Barron's Mechanical Aptitude & Spatial Relations Test", also memorize the 25-pair wire color code and brush up on your basic electrical circuit knowledge.
Thanks man...yeah I got that book. The reason I am concerned is because I got an email immediately after applying asking for further information to fill out their tax credit & EEO information. When I clicked on the link in their email and attempted to fill it out it said that they already had it on file from a previous application. So I was unable to do it....now my application status is stuck on "need more information".

Oh well I'll just wait a bit longer and see what happens...thanks

They aren't going to have you take the test till you provide that info I believe. I got the same error everytime I applied (few different positions) so that is common but you need to try and clear that error, perhaps try logging in on a different computer. If you can't clear it maybe their is a way to contact HR or someone in hiring dept about the issue your having

If it tells you you already provided that information, than there's no need to worry, it's on file. Your application status will be changed to "Awaiting HR Review" next when they start reviewing applications/resumes. Mine was stuck on that for a while as well.

If you're hired, you'll notice that your App. status will then change to "Withdrew from application process", which is obviously not true but their status updates are just off for some reason.

Not the greatest job but its a job. Wages + OT can average $60K in San Francisco. I got hired at $20/hr & worked 6 months of OT. In the beginning, you will be thrown into the fire, get stuck on jobs for hours, not sure who to call for help, & hope your manager is not a new hire. I got lucky that old friends helped me out to get by with all the BS that comes along with position. I want out already & fear advancement on this side is quite difficult. Good luck with your decision.

Answers to both questions start at page 318 (March 1,2 to present), in short $9-$15 depending on education and experience. Their are two temp jobs by contract one is for projects twelve months or less, the other is for projects 12 to 36 months hopefully the job posting will state this otherwise will have to wait for job offer/interview to find out. Again would encourage you to spend some time reading the last month or two posts as most all your immediate questions and answers are there.

Any updates from the new hires on how your training is going, bama08, cable cowboy, or hemipowered?

For Midwest today is start of 2nd year of current contract, 2.75% wage increase for union jobs, SW contract I believe 2nd year is beginning of many.

Glad you asked, I'm about to hang up my AT&T hat for Time Warner. They offered me a position a couple days ago...more pay, more benefits, paid certification training, better payraises, and room for ADVANCEMENT, which is what I was looking for in the first place.

AT&T training has been very, very subpar, in my personal experience so far. 99% is customer service, which was expected, with little time for actual need-to-know training. I'm only what, 4-5 weeks in, and grown tired of everyone (techs, and including union stewards) telling me how bad this job is going to be, combined with mediocre training, especially with troubleshooting, to where currently I don't have the confidence I can do the job correctly 100% by deployment date.
Plus, I'm looking to do Install/Repair eventually if a power apprenticeship does not present itself before that, and being a Prem Tech until I quit? No thanks. Like many said, there is no true career with this position, you be a PT, until you quit, are fired, or "promote" to manager. It's just not for me. I'm grateful for the opportunity to get hired, and for the nice people I've met so far, but I'm looking to move on to greener pastures.

Ya I second what cablecowboy said above, I've worked for a lot of cable and phone companies, and ATT shows no actual opportunities besides management, but that's also a job where youre easily disposed of. I have a job offer with adt commercial installs, Tyco commercial and another phone company, If any go through, I'm done with ATT. I appreciate being there and will continue to be, but I'm not staying for more than a few years at most. It's sad that there isn't careers in the phone company anymore, it really is all corporate greed now. Training is an absolute joke, no real training at all. Luckily I know how to run cable and phone, otherwise I'd be screwed. Having said all that, I'm still extremely happy to have a job and goto work everyday, but that's just me, ill stay here if I have to, but I'm looking for a career, not a thankless job.

Exactly. Hearing about AT&T in the "good ole days" makes me wish we could turn back the clock when they were a good, reputable company and working for them could be fun, but the times are a-changin', and it's ruled by money, not customer satisfaction, despite how much they drill that into your head. Like you and I mentioned, glad to have a paying gig especially during these times, but if I can't get up and enjoy what I do and look forward to it every morning (or at least, most mornings), then I'll just end up bitter, my customer skills will deteriorate, and the will to put forth my best will diminish, and I don't want any of that...so I'd rather be somewhere I'm valued.

Interesting, its been no secret that you desire outside work, is that what you will doing with TW, or just being a CATV installer with some outside work?
About 20%(thats right one out of every five) of the PTs in our garage came from TW, all saying the pay and bennies are way better with ATT,but the work is harder, so this must be a region or state thing as Cali must go far above what they are willing do to in Milwaukee, even bama08 was with Comcast and started at better pay, bennies with more opportunities at ATT in the deep south.
As far as advancement options, a quick review of this site would tell you the story, and I believe you knew that going in, so no surprises there.
Still "hope for the best, plan for the worst".

For hemipowered, were you not the one saying this was the best shot you have had in a long time (post concerning west going on strike at start of your training), to be fair you also said what you not put up with BS, for those reviewing this site perhaps now you may understand why this company is always hiring, 40-60% turn over in first year, and be patience if you pass the tests you time will come to experience firsthand
"It's not just a job, its an adventure" (att army)

Still if you need a job in this economy with limited or no training and options it is not a bad job, but it is just a job. Again best to all in training or hiring process.

It is the best opportunity I've had. I'll.be working study until I find an actual career. It just so happens I randomly got two better job offers after I'd already started training. I'm sure ill be here at ATT for a while and maybe even a few years. I'm excited to goto work everyday and all. This union contract has just put a sour taste in my mouth. So don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be working, I just wish this job was what it used to be. But this is how our world is now, corporate greed and no hope for the average person.

1. I would be starting doing outside and inside as an installer. However, there exists a *route* to go into I/M, line crew, construction, etc. whatever you want to call it. The only way you're gettin there in AT&T is by quitting, and re-applying for a Term OSP/Splicer position.
2. My benefits kick in immediately at TWC, with better medical.
3. They pay for SCTE Cert. classes. They also provide supplemental training in desired areas (fiber optics, IT, etc.)
4. More frequent payraises, with bonuses. Promotion after 6 mos + raise + bonus, bonus after completion of SCTE courses,
5. Take home wheels. Taking the truck home and dispatching from my home and only meeting once a week instead of every morning is much better in my opinion.
6. I was treated kindly with a warm welcome by the hiring manager, who is very genuine and can tell he likes his job. The hiring manager that contacted me I'm almost certain commutes to work and back on a broom.
7. Training is a thorough 12 weeks.

There's just more opportunity here. I get to ADVANCE to outside work eventually, and they may not have positions open for that here, but when teh time comes I'm probably going to be looking to move out of state anyways, so I can look for those opportunities elsewhere.

So I got a random call from an AT&T HR person asking me if I am still interested in the job, and asking me if I received the testing email. I explained to her about the situation with the website not allowing me to refile the tax/eeo info due to it being on a previous aplication. She said they would "re-send" the testing email (even though I never received one the 1st time). So, that was yesterday and still nothing....she said it wouldn't take more than 24 hours. Damn it...this crap is frustrating...at least I have a phone number for an actual person now...lol.

I thought it was pretty weird that they called me

Same situation here in central NC. Ive been working for TWC for 5 1/2 years and the tech progression program started several months after I did. I did installs for about 8 months and then signed up for service (they had a sign up sheet on the sups door back then) and have been doing 99 percent service since. You get a 50 cent raise for the first few permotions then a dollar for the rest. I took the fastest track possible and went from 12.50 to now at 21.59 plus a dollar for evening shift diff. They just slowed it down some after I got senior pro II because you got too apply and get a senoir pro I spot before going to pro II a year later. I work 11-8 mon-fri. My last two raises where 4 percent with 3.5 percent before that so that helped too. Theres alot of oportunity here too. Its hard to get into maint. though Ive interviewed like 12 times. Im not sweating it though as it wouldnt be much of a raise anyway.

So have they finalized the district 9 contract for california?

According to this http://district9.cwa-union.org/news/entry/att... vote is scheduled for May 1. This is the third tentative contract since last expired April 2012.
I suspect they are currently hiring and training the managers for the new OSP crews they will be hiring.

Actually, we just had a walkout today at the garage we're training at, and several walkouts at other garages the last two weeks.

Next vote is May 1, and I don't think it's going to go well...

Also, in my opinion, this isn't accomplishing much unless there is a mass walkout, and I'm talking about multiple regions, not just a garage here and there and go back to work the next day.

This whole thing is a damn mess that just needs to be over with

I'm in the mid-IL area and was wondering if anyone new what the job opportunities are around here? If so, where one would go to apply or submit a resume? I've come to dead=ends my searches.

I'm up in northern ca and I don't think they've done any walkouts up here at all, I agree though, good or bad contract, this needs to be over with. The walkouts will do nothing. Even if this gets voted no again, the union won't call a strike, it just won't happen. Hopefully we don't start walking out up here.
