DALLAS – A Dallas County jury on Wednesday sentenced a former Mesquite High School teacher and coach to 15 years in prison.

Andrew Scott Lott, 34, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a second-degree felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student. He could have received up to 20 years in prison for what his lawyers called a consensual sexual relationship with a 17-year-old senior at the school that began in 2011. The relationship continued even after Lott’s Jan. 26, 2012 arrest by Mesquite police and only ended a week ago. He also could have received probation.
