Read - Compliants.com for hundreds of reports on Just Brakes
From an Ex-Manager:
I use to be a manager of a just brakes location. you want to know the funny part. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BRAKES. The reason why i got the original assitant position is because i have a sales background. Now ask yourself this question why would a legitimate brake shop need to hire salesmen. Well you have to have someone exprience in selling if you gonna sell the immorral bs they sell. Heres how it works and this is there training. Some one calls in for a price its always 9988 even if you know its there gonna be more for the vehicle whether theres a non stock pad fee or a larger truck fee you never inform them of that tell the vehicle is torn apart. Next you have the vehicle in while its being torn apart you are trainded to chat with the customer to try to build a =='repoire. this way you can try to get them to build trust with you. Next unless the systems contaminated you bring them in for what is called the WALK AROUND and this never changes for the vehicle and here is how it goes. The tech usually the other mngt team member introduces him self then this this the walk around... sir/mam the reason for your (stated complaint) is due to your wheel cynders leaking (if not visibally leaking then you say there sticking due to age and milelage doesnt matter if theres only 20000 miles on the vehicle if they question it thats what the mng/ast/=(salesman)if there for. now sir/mam do to the wheel cylinders not functioning your front calipers have overheated causing them to bind and not release correctly. Your pads are overheated and your shims are non reusable. Due to your rears not working correctly your rear hardware is weak and also needs replaced. due to the overheating upfront we will also need to replace the front hardware to. the play tech then turns to the mng aka salesman and says '(salesmans name) in order to fix mr/mrs so and sos problem i am going to need to replace the rear wheel cylinders and hardware. i am going to need to rebuild the front calipers and replace the hardware and shims. i would also suggest replacing the master cylinder due the the condition of the lower hydraulics. ill try to save the rotors and drums but i wont know till i machine them (which always never happens theyll need replace to by the time i got done w' the customer) Can you go ahead and give mrs/mr so a so a price and ill get the problem fixed. Now the salesman prices it note: theres no set few for parts mark up or other work thats the managers descrestion. I was told one time by the corporate office when i thought i was overpricing wheel cylinders to do it tell i get caught NO LIE. if the customer says no you try to counter the no with aggressive tatics Basically bad cop and if they say no then the tech will call and try to second effort the sale in a concerned manner (good cop). but if you ever had your car inspected at Just Brakes your walk around would have sounded the same unless they werent doing the way they were traing at what just brake calls 'THE WAY' school. Now if you refuse to do the extra work they will do the 99 88 special but wont machine the rotors (which if you check is part of the advertised service which last i check is considered fraud if not done.) the excuse i was suppose to give if called on not machining the rotors was they were to close to spec or were non machinable due to the overheating. But the real reason i come to find it not machining the rotors will cause the brakes to squeak pretty quickly. Just watch out when you go to just brakes cause its no lie its a scam i been part of it take my word on it.

I just had an experience there and i went in for front brake pad changes for the 79.99 price and, voila! 30 minutes later, they say my system is 'contaminated' and have to replace my entire brake system. What kind of a place tries to charge almost $4,000 to a poor college student?

And you're description of the salesman technique is spot on because that is literally the exact process that i was taken through while i was there for 3 HOURS. I'm astonished that their shop has a procedure for creating problems that don't exist.

Just Brakes is Just Scams.

I have been in the automotive business for 30 years and believe it or not other than your mom and pop shops all automotive shops use a sales person to comunicate with thier customers, what do you think the person you talk to at the counter at the dealer is most of them no little or nothing about the repair they are selling to you. As to brake repair being more than just pads and shoes the is fact the most people wait untill they have done a great deal of damage to thier system before they have any repairs done. The national averae for brake repair is $400. Then you copmlain when you do not fix it corectly because you did not want to spend the 50 bucks for the new hardare that is worn out and your brakes squeek and wear out prematurly. To the person with a contaminated system unfortunatly that is about what it cost on some of the vehicles out there the ABS controller can cost that much alone. I do not work for just brakes but I will tell you that from my experience they are just trying to put out a quality product and make a little profit too so they can stay in business and honer thier warranty

Uh yeah am at just brakes right now...I came in for brakes, they dismantled my car and told me I need to pay 800 for extra things. I said only budgeted for 200 like they told me on the phone, they took me to the back room and told me how I can mess up my car without all that other nonsense...I. was like huh? Can u just fix my brakes please, they all look mad now. I guess that's how they get paid but am just like how inconsiderate, I guess salesmen don't usually give a rats ass abt ur financial situation. But am definately not coming back. Am at the one on lemmon... shop around and avoid being harrassed

Just Brakes in Temple, Tx is a rip off. My son just wanted to replace his brake shoes. They told his system was corrupted because someone put transmission fluid instead of brake fluid when they "topped off his fluid". They wanted $3100.00 to fix. They also said the master cylinder would cost over $1300 because it had to come from Honda. I took his car to a reputative mechanic. He got the master cylinder for under $300 from the same dealer JB had contacted. He got the same repairs for $400.00 total.

If you go to just brakes watch out for a manager by the name of jason Bennett he will rip you off. He will charge for new parts and put used or not even change out the part. He will also put line locks on your brake lines and tell you that your calipers are locking up,also watch out for a manager by the name of jeff adams he is a crook also. What is amazing is that they are the market managers now,no telling what they are teaching the managers at the other stores

I am well aware of these type of activities. I once was working on a less then 1 year old VW jetta and poor customer was sold rebuild of calipers and we couldn't get any parts except thru a dealer shop. So manager told me and another tech just clean up all original parts and put it back together. And still charged for whole parts list pitched. They also will not let you leave if they think your brakes are to bad. I eventually went to corporate and was threatened my life from in shop manager. I was transfered to another shop. Which in turn, fictitious news that I was secretly recording activities came about and then that shops manager threatened i'd be arrested for unlawful recording. I quit . F#CK JB they are crooks. Brakes are very easy. Buy a Haynes manual or Chilton and do your own fixing. ALWAYS PUMP your brakes b4 a drive make sure you did job correctly. Like a doctor get a second opinion.

Same here. Started out $197.00. Then it went to 1,000.00. End up at over $1,000.00. Will not get any business from me again. Not even changing oil in my hair.

I just came from there and I wanted new brakes but they told me I didn't need them so I just got an oil change and I wasn't charged for the brake inspection. So not all just brakes shops are shady. Definitely not the one in Keller Texas

I should have read the reviews first!!! james is exactly right!! went to one in Stockbridge ga. they charge three times the amount for every part they put on the car, they take advantage of people who trust them to be honest!! I was told that the corporate office is aware of their dishonest treatment of customers and encourages them to do so!!! The salesman was trying to convince me that I wasn't overcharged!! Then the owner said yes they do overcharge and it's legal for him to do it!! He was very rude, disrespectful!! Please don't take your hard earned money to just brakes!! THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS!!

After the walkaround and with my truck on the lifters , all put appart, at the Just Brakes on 635 and Northwest Hwy 5-6 years ago , I was told my total for repairs was going to be 900 dollars, I told em thanks but no thanks please put my truck together so I can leave, these guys decided to tell me management would refuse to do that because they couldnt put me back on the road since my vehicle was a danger to others and they wouldnt do it.... Needless to say, after I started flipping out in front of other customers they did put my truck back together & let me leave... I went down the road afterwards and got my repairs done for 75 dollars.... Never had a problem with my brakes on that truck again and never ever going back to Just Brakes at all

Ohhh my GAWWWWSH, you all are SO RIGHT!!! Don @ the Arlington (Cooper St.) location was nothing but a salesman. All I needed was front brake pads, but he insisted that the $99.88 was for all 4, and if I only got front ones, it would be $109.99. Well, how DUMB is that?? Ok, so go ahead and replace all 4 for the cheaper price even thought I don't need all 4? I brought my dad with me because he was in car parts management for years and knows anything and everything about cars. I wanted to make sure I also eliminated the chance of being taken advantage of because I'm a woman, who doesn't know as much about cars. But it didn't matter! He asked us to come out and look at the brake pads and how they had worn down unevenly, and that meant there was something realllllly bad wrong with my brake system... BAH HAHAHAAA!! My dad told him the brake pads don't always wear down completely evenly... the guy "didn't understand".. he actually said that. When we refused to get any other work done, he said we would need to "part ways"... I said "so, you will not just replace the brake pads for the $99.99 special", and he said "no ma'am"... can you believe that????? They are a FRAUD...capital F R A U D!!! He was very rude too, and just walked off. I went down the road and got front brake pads ONLY (because that is ALL I needed) for $40 more... there was no hassle, and there was nothing else wrong with my brake system!!!! Pass the word around... that place is ridiculous!!!
