The "A" is an enviromental disgrace, and just like the "W" in Silver City should be restored to the mountains' condition at the time of these desecrations. Sustainability and environmental stewardship should take priority at both universities/towns. Some traditions are not worth maintaining, most of which are generated in fraternities or sororities. Grow up already and seek to attain a higher level of civic and enviromental responsibility.
I guess you'd agree then to remove the Tram from the Sandia's as well? Oh and while you're at it, turn in your gas guzzler or so-called "earth friendly" Prius and start walking to/from your destinations...barefoot! Funny how environmentalist wacko's feel everyone else is in the wrong but yet they can't see their own faults.

Keep the "A" tradition alive. And while we're at it, burn a tree or two to be used at the homecoming bonfire. Oh, wait...

Has anyone been up there lately to see the thousands of nails strewn about on the ground left there after the burning of all of the pallets during the December pilgrimage? I agree with and respect the tradition of the pilgrimage but it appears to have gotten out of hand. A massive fire built in an area which was unprotected, burning native plants. Trash left all over the ground. A true disgraceful drunken bash. Needs to be curbed and kept under control next year.

I recently moved to Denver, CO and visited the city of Fort Collins (about 1 hr north of Denver) and they have an "A" Mountain also. I didnt get the story behind it but I thought it was funny! The mascot for the college are the Rams so I'm not sure why they chose an A?!

The letter "A" adorns the western hillside of Fort Collins. Colorado State University was formally called Colorado A & M, and students were referred to as "Aggies." The one at CSU was actually the first one I ever saw back in the late 80s.

Elsewhere there are hillside letters, you can read about it here (and someone who wants to cast the area on the international wiki stage can add NMSU to the list, I suppose.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillside_letters

For all of you who think the A is cool grafitti, you have the mentality of taggers. Those who have suggested I walk where I need to go--I do, and would not suck up gasoline by chasing my tail like many of you. Tree hugger, not hardly, just hate to see crap displayed as an expression of the town's artistic talents. For the numbskull who suggested I would remove the arial tram from the Sandias, I don't think it takes anything away from the landfill that Albuquerque is. And by the way, anybody who wants to bulldoze my house and restore the property to its original state can be my guest--it is just a University town rathole owned by a local slum lord-and just as nasty as the A on the Tortugas.
