St. Patrick's Day is a business adventure to promote selling alcohol to remember a missionary who died over 1500 years ago. Ireland needed a saint and he was picked.

Sound Off: "We finally have a president who has enough ethics to eliminate tax havens and tax loopholes. The wealthy will finally pay their dues to a nation which made them wealthy in the first place. In addition, for the rest of us, it will alleviate our tax burden."

why should companies who open shop overseas pay taxes here on revenue they make over there, they are taxed by the country they are in at a lower rate than it is here in the US. If obama taxes them more they will just close up shop here and just do bussiness there and hard working Americans will lose jobs because of obamas taxes

"It's unfortunate we live in a society and a global economy of bigots, not giving our current president a chance. We are in a society of bigots. That's what's gonna kill us, not the current recession, it's abunch of bigots unfortunately. And it's all Republican based. Thank you to Colonel Bush."

Sorry, dummy, but what's killing us is a society of the stupid, who supported Bill Klinton's idiotic programs, then voted for an empty shell because he is a smooth talker. But that's all he is, other than a darker clone of Hitler. The parallels are just too close...

The Prez is afraid that money earned here in U.S. is being hidden in offshore accounts. It probably is. That's what keeps a lot of small businesses alive.

" The Washington Post (5/6, Tse) reports the ruling "provides a critical boost to the government's goal of quickly reorganizing the automaker so as not to scare away suppliers and potential customers. Chrysler plans to use the bankruptcy process to sell its assets to a new entity jointly owned by Fiat, the United Auto Workers and the U.S. and Canadian governments." The sale procedure "approved by the judge sets a May 20 deadline for potential bidders to put in competing offers."

As if Dodge didn't suck enough already! The sad thing is, Chrysler has been producing some of the best-looking cars ever in recent years. Now, as owners, we'll see if the UAW is so ready and willing to screw the company at all costs.

"I just watched the president on TV and for the people who bask in how smart he is, why does he still need the teleprompter? Seems to me he just reads the teleprompter no matter what it says!"

Well, at least the current president can read a teleprompter.

I can't understand all this whining about some AMERICANS celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Nobody is forcing anybody to celebrate anything. If I want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Mardi Gras, St Patrick's Day, Columbus Day, Chinese New Year and Jefferson Davis Holiday it is up to me. Isn't it great to live in America where little people can complain about little things?

To "getaclue", I am pretty sure on issue you are talking about you are misinformed. The real issue is multi-national companies are earning money over seas and paying taxes overseas. The problem is 83 of the top 100 multi-national companies are writing off their overseas business expenses on their US based divisions' or subsidiaries' tax returns. By doing this they are avoiding paying the full taxes they owe on the business they conducted in this country. The new tax proposal does not try to tax multi-nationals for profits they make overseas. It is has been a win win for the multi-national company and a Lose Lose for the USA. This loop hole has be known about for a long time and nothing was done about it. That doesn't make sense, to logical Americans that know GWB & BHO have and are running huge deficits on our budget, and it is time the loop hole was closed.

The reason people in Mexico don't celebrate American holidays is because it's against the law. They get the deported. The reason people in the United States celebrate Mexican holidays is because the Hispanic population has not accepted the fact that they're Americans. They still think Southwestern United States belongs to Mexico, and is still like that way.

Actually is has become quite customary for Mexicans (in Mexico) especially in border towns to celebrate some American holidays. Of course we Mexican will celebrate anything just for the fun of having friends and family together. But here is the US is has become a bigger holiday again because Mexican like to celebrate with the family. My parents were legal immigrants from Mexico but they loved everything American - and they raised us to be the same. I am getting off subject however, no we don't get deported for celebrating American holidays since we are in the US. Now much like the 5 de Mayo event, one always has the RIGHT not to celebrate any holidays if they don't want to.

You make some very good points! And I really don't think most of us here care who celebrates what holiday. I say we take them all! Who doesn't like to BBQ and party it up?

I Kimberly Atencio was homeless in Las Cruces NM .I went to eat at the Las Cruces Community of Hope where I was told that i could no longing eat by Pamell Angell, she has a big problem with denying the homeless to get the help they need. She had me removed off the property for stating my opinion of their food while drugs and crime and sexual activity runs rampant there with her knowledge: she chooses to look the other way and there are many fights& the Las Cruces Police are there many times a day. but Pamela Angell has no control over the problems. Seems to me some one with authority needs to look in to this.

If there is all this fuss about people worried about the swine flu hitting our children here in Las Cruces then why doesn't the health department come in and test all students to make sure that they are safe. Living so close to the border and with the many of swine flu cases in el paso they should not only inform us of how many cases are here and there. They should start doing something now before all hell brakes loose!!!!!!!!!! There are alot of people who are getting upset about all this blaming mexicans or mexico for that matter, well what most of these people don't understand is yes it is an epidemic from Mexico, but MEXICANS AREN'T THE ONLY ONES COMING IN AND OUT OF MEXICO. All sorts of people go down there for vacations, medicines, doctors visits, and so on. There are alot of people who are ignorant about this and these are the people who need to be educated!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, he's (B.O.) going after the overseas tax havens, aka offshore bank accounts. The businesses left will fold up.

The smart ones will be moving corporate HQ off shore so the US will get nothing at all. By the way they are paying taxes in the country they do business in, why do we want to double tax them. I know the outrageous spending has to be paid back somehow.

I would be okay with Cinco de mayo if:
The USA didn't have 20-30 million illegal aliens, mostly Mexican (10 percent of their population) in our country ILLEGALLY, marching in our streets, demanding non-existent rights (due to their illegality)all the while waving the Mexican flag and proclaiming that this is their land. That my friend is an invasion that will lead to civil unrest IMHO. It needs to stop. Cinco de mayo represents imperialism. I celebrate and remember the Alamo.
