Letters to the editor

I was pleased to read in this morning's Sun-News that the local Red Cross Chapter would be staying in Las Cruces.

Interesting point by the poster, but the Silver City man's letter is still a terrific one.
God bless our brave, overextended troops ...

What, you've never heard of depleted uranium being used for munitions (and it is making people sick and has been linked to Gulf War syndrome)? The M1A1's and Warthog tank killers use these to slice through armor, but are more akin to the dirty bombs we all hear about. Do a little research before you spout off at the mouth about things you have no clue about.

And I cite my sources too....

Depleted uranium is the byproduct of producing weapons grade uranium. Are you trying to say that we are depositing this near Silver City?

No, depleted uranium DOES NOT make people sick. It is simply the extremely heavy, dense, barely radioactive metal left after all the good stuff is removed to make reactor fuel and weapons-grade materials. In fact, it can make good shielding for stronger radioactive sources and for hard points on tools. It is the U-238 that is left after all the U-235 is removed.

Whatever you say, slick. No need to be jealous of my awesome intellect, despite your opinion about it.

Those so-called 'sources' are just a wee bit of propaganda by the same folks who decry nuclear energy for any use and would be happy for us all to be living in the Dark Ages, dying of The Plague. They are not based on any actual science whatsoever. DU is even used in pottery glazing, such as that on Fiestaware. Before WWII, they used natural uranium, which was far more radioactive. Now, they use uranium oxide from depleted uranium. Do this check, measure old Fiestaware of the red color from before the war and some newer stuff with a Geiger counter or a scintillator probe, and you will see the difference.
