Besides a house alarm, keep your car alarm panic button remote next to your bed. Silent alarms get help but a car going off, gets your neighbors up and paying attention in seconds.

The neighborhood watch does help and people pay attention to things that are unusual and take down decriptions and call it in. Get a dog, great companionship and they hear EVERYTHING.

Shooting someone has legal ramifications, is seriously messy to clean up and you need a plan and an attorney for the aftermath. When someone is entering via a window or kicked in door...most people will shoot them then find out why they dropped by. PS Who answers their door unless they are expecting someone and know for sure who is on the otherside.

Here's to Mr. Ayala for trying to get the anti-crime movement going! It is a big step in the right direction and I hope he succeeds with the help of his neighbors. Good luck!

could do all that to you because they did zero, zilch, zip, nada for my house and goods. 1 1/2 hours to get a cop over when I told the dispatcher the guy had just run out the back. Just like Mexico but higher taxes and if you defend yourself here then they DO get interested.
BTW ask these as/s/holes how many solved burglary cases they have on the dockets. NONE!!!!!!!! A blind dog could catch somebody INSIDE the house. Good God. We need cops that care and can eventually break at least a FEW cases! Right now they only break these IF they catch them with a car load of goods and the id/i/ots used a cell phone while they drive away.
look im a 22year old veteran and im looking into become a police officer in las cruces because thats were im from and i do care about people thats why i choose to serve and when i become a officer of the law for las cruces thats what im going to do is serve all that live in las cruces im so tired of hearing about people my age doing nothing with there lives and its not the old timers responsibility to be trying to fix the crime its my age group because we are the ones who are going to still be here in thirty forty years and i think we need to do something for are community and i believe that one man or one women can make a difference its just how much you want to fight for it and for me that is to the death

And had not the world been prepared to respond WITH VIOLENCE Hitler you would be speaking German. Deluded people like you seem to think humanity is all civilized and hugs and happiness (why don't you take a drive 40 miles south and look around for a couple days). You are fortunate that there are people willing to stand up and face the aggression. Go back to your distorted reality, you do society a disservice by opening your mouth.

Its time to start taking matters into your own hands when the job is not getting done. Las Cruces needs its very own "Kick Ass" superhero to tame these little bastard animals that are taking their anger out on the streets and joining gangs.

the frigging burglars and their worthless families are on here giving "nuts" and "clueless" to those who foment killing their ba/s/ta/rd burglar daddies and brothers. Burglary is a father-to-son trade and always has been. The cops are well aware of it as centuries of law enforcement handed that down. But when was the last time a real burglary or auto theft ring was taken down by the work of the DACSD or the LCPD. Only if they stop them for a license plate light and see stolen goods.
Um, there have been a few taken down lately......for whatever reason, it doesn't make the paper. Read the indictments once in a while. Those are for felony crimes, not "license plate lights'.

A lively discussion oday. As the Latin saying goes, "Si vis pacem, para bellum". If you seek peace, prepare for war. I am prepared to defend my house and family. On the other hand, I don't lose sight of the end game -- seeking peace. Be vigilant, be prepared, be a good neighbor and things should work out.

If you plan to arm yourself, get some (real)training, get lots of practice and study the law. Otherwise, you are a fool with a gun.

If someone is coming at you in your house, you can shoot them. If they are running away, don't shoot them in the azz. You will be arrested and later sued.
