This is massively infuriating. I would have gone to jail for a few years and lived with the stigma for the rest of my life if I had done this. I guess this goes to show that you can go ahead and terrorize your ex as long as you're a cop who psyched out the officials during your psych exam.

Why in the world did they let him word as an officer if he
was mentally ill or did'nt anybody ever noticed anything
until he started bothering his girlfriend. If it would
have been another person I'll bet you they would have locked him or her right away, He should have done at least
a little time for all he put his girlfriend through. I
don't even think he's going to be evaluated, this is all
wrong but oh well he was a law man, if it was another man
he would'nt have that advantage.

Why is this guy getting preferential treatment? If treatment is what he needs instead of jail why not do the same for everybody?

You hope to conclude this positively, professionally and with integrity? I see Vega has been using the dictionary again.

I remember that a former Mesilla marshall was arrested in a drug and prostitution sting and that Susana Martinez FAILED miserably and that individual was never tried.

And to think for a long time I wanted to go to the academy to become an officer of the law... two things stopped me, this sort of nonsense, and the fact that the legal system has so many loopholes that you can arrest someone just to have the judge dismiss the case.

I remember that also. The problem with that case is that the Officer working the case was sleeping with the informant.

"He's been taken off of patrol and there will be a complete internal investigation," Vega said Friday. "We'll gather all the facts and there's a process that we've chosen to do, and come to a (positive conclusion) with this matter. It's a very unfortunate situation, but we hope to conclude this (positively), professionally and with integrity."

(Positively) you will not have any trouble from this, it won't appear on your record, no one except a few people who read the Sun News will ever know about it. Now, let's go get the bad guys of the street.

As a law enforcement officer this really burns me up. This guys contiues to betray his oath, and lacks all profesionalism. He needs to be fired and decertified from DPS in Santa Fe. He should not be allowed to perfrom any such duties or carry a gun. Guys like him and Joe Serna give all of us a bad name and a black eye we can not recover from.

The fact that Vega used the word "integrity" is chilling to me. How many jobs can one leave and still be credible (LCSO, Carrizozo PD, Juvenile probation, Mesilla Marshal, Columbus PD) He is in with Richardson though, so I doubt anything will ever happen to him.

Chief Vega uses two words that are not even in his vocabulary; "Professionally and Integrity", why does this individual keep getting employment considering his history. In this case, he obviously circumvented the process of law, DASO should have known better than to trust Vega as he is not to be trusted. Much worse, these two men are working in a border town with known cartel activity, I hope the other authorities in that area are being vigilant.

Your infuriation is noted and understood.

However, I am unclear about how this betrays his oath. Its been a while since I've read a police officer's oath, and I cannot immediately recall what in that commitment is violated here.

That said, it is a virtual certainly that he HAS routinely violated his oath in much more serious ways, to wit, upholding the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and Laws of the State of New Mexico, as do you. But as a society we are much more interested in stories like this than adhering to the rule of law.

Moving bad or dirty cops around to different towns reminds me of moving dirty priests to other parishes in other states to sweep scandal under the rug.

The problem still exists, just somewhere else.

There is a better way to handle people in positions of trust and honor who screw up very badly. And it's not to do their laundry and clean up for a new team photo like nothing ever happened.

Now look what has happened. You are left with trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube while looking professional doing it.

Took him off of Patrol???? Living in Columbus I never saw him on patrol only driving the Chief around being his little driver. Time to kick them both out of Columbus.
