You got to be kidding. Are you doing this voluntarily? I moved back here for work. The town sucks for the most part. No night life. No day life. We spend more money on cops and criminals in jail than we do on kids. The place is f--king crime central. If you don't tie your stuff down, it grows legs. Call the cops and they will gladly waste your time and write a report and never look for anything. Get pulled over by these clowns and expect for a bunch of a--:oles with the little man syndrome who have all of the sudden been given power and they abuse it daily. The city council here has it's head up it's arse. No industry, no jobs, just traffic light cameras and corrupt little town politics. The university rocks and is an excellent place to get anm education. Since mexico became offlimits, the college kids probably hate it here. Not the case when I went to school here. Roads here suck. The cost of housing here is ridiculous, these freakin people have not figured out that the economy is in the toilet and that the housing market crashed 3 yrs ago. A shithole house here is 120K. I bought a house here when it was reasonable. If you want something in a nice neighborhood, expect to give blood for it. The drivers for the high cost of housing are next to stupid. There is nothing worth a crap in this town. If you want to live in a place where californians have bought everything and driven the cost of living thru the roof, this is your place. Mostly uneducated. Average income cannot be higher than 10 dollars an hour. They keep trying to revive a dead downtown and dump and dump money into it. They have recently built a few big govt bldgs, like these morons add to the economy. Public education here sucks. Teachers love the good kids, but ther maority of kids hate school here (yes, I wa a good super smart kid). Think of the biggest shithole you've ever been to and add an exponent of 10. We have 5 seasons, winter, spring, fall, summer and wind/dirt. The place has a good shooting range. The cops will crucify you if you legally open carry. We have one mall that was new and interesting 30 yrs ago. There are more stores in a mini-mart than in cruces. Walmart is king. They have big dreams of the town growing and keep bldg bridges to now where all over the place. The city wants to get rich off of incoming companies, so they go 30 miles down the road to el paso. Should I keep going?

Forgot to mention that if you have money here and I'm talking good cash, all things are fair game: murder, theft, rape, you name it, money can buy it. As examples I bring up: the kid that killed a new dad on stern drive a few yrs ago while super drunk, his parents owned oil, brother shot another brother, dad knew the judge, sheriff was stealing from the county, he had friends, for those reading, feel free to add comments. Oh yeah, and the cops are first rate, 3rd grade reading and writing level. They couldn't find a thorne as they sat on it.

I moved here from up north and i can tell you that the weather is great, dry heat for most of the year and warm winters. That being said the economy is garbage, you are lucky to make anything above 7.50 an hour if you are lucky enough to even find a job (hope you speak Spanish because English isn't enough here even though it is the language this country speaks) and an apartment that isn't run down runs 600a month. utilities especially electric are insanely high priced. If you aren't wealthy and have to work for a living do not even consider this shithole.

You can certainly make more than $7.50 per hour, if your educated.

I moved here 15 years ago and it was the worst decision I ever made. No green, dusty, windy days where you can't even open a window. Rude, self-centered people, horrible drivers and nothing to do. You can only climb the same rock so many times. No one takes care of their yards and people seem to think there is nothing wrong with leaving a dog outside for days in 100 degree heat. Animal abuse here is horrific. You are looked down on if you don't speak Spanish. There is no nightlife and restaurants are sub-par except for Kitana. The low cost of living is not benefited from because the wages are so low. The police are terrible. You can't get out once you move here because the wages are too low (so are the hours they give you) so you can never get enough money together to leave. The only good thing is that when I die I know I'll go to heaven because I will have already done my time in hell.

I moved back to this place after many years of being gone. Thank God I'm moving out again.

As a kid growing up here, it was ok. There is nothing to do here or at least there wasn't many yrs ago.

I see nothing for kids to keep busy with except smoking pot and drinking and screwing. Amusement parks? Negative. Arcades? Nada. Movie theaters. Ok. Schools? Ok. Housing prices? Ridiculous. Police? Useless. Roads? Horrible. Restaurants? Crappy at best. Stores? Shitty selection. Weather? Great. Infrastructure? Sucky. Wages? Shitty. Jobs? Nowhere near abundant. WAL-Mart is a top employer. Crime? Depends where you live, but is high for a little crap place.

I suppose if you are near dead and you want a place where nothing good ever happens, this is the place for you.

Kids in las cruces tend to be doing more of all of the above. Too many pregnatn girsl. Too many lazy boys. A bad school system. No real entertainment for kids or adults.

If you never do anything and do not expect a pretty place and have no issue with corrupt politicians and dirty cops, Las Cruces is the place for you. If you expect to find a nice affordable place to live with things to do, find another place.

Actually, Las Cruces is moving in the right direction. The new DA, Mark D'Antonio has drained the corrupt swamp at the 3rd Judicial District Court.....in under 60 days, and most of the drainage went north to Santa Fe.

If you have kids that need a little direction and help staying out of trouble, I'd send them over to the Sammy Burke Gym.They have an excellent staff who have helped at risk kids stay on the right path and pursue careers in law enforcement, nursing, and even become a World Champion Boxer!

You might even catch the World Champ, Austin Trout, preparing for his fight against Canelo on April 20th!

The rope: not just for dopes!

Whatever happend to this guy's brothers. Louis went on to be a ref after the beating he took at the hands of Macho Camacho. Rocky?

I'd have to say that boxing is a great thing for screwed up kids, but other than the burke gym, there are too many opportunities to do nothing in las cruces.

Yes, every once in a while, las cruces produces a pro football player, a boxing champion, an astronaut or an engineer. At times we produce the dirt of the earth like politicians, lawyers (ly-ars) and other dirt. I don't know how many kids aspire to be traffic monitors, not exactly a wonderful career. Of course, being a cop is better than being in jail.

I'm glad to hear that someone is paying attention to the corrupt and stupidity. I've heard that the governor is doing wonderful things. What are they? Not to be confused with the useless mayor.

West El Paso. If you have to be at WSMR, it is more of a college town with lots to do. Monthly calendar is useful www.epscene.com

Don't take my word for it. I wish I knew about this before moving out west. Have an area in some US city you love in another state? This tool is alright for finding something that feels a bit more like home
www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhood-search...

or maybe check out www.city-data.com/forum/las-cruces/ or the Las Cruces and El Paso subReddits

You have a ***secure*** job with benefits bringing you here. That sets you ahead of 75% of those who are forced to say this place is "home".
