You must understand that this is part of Redflex's program to continue to extract money from this city's population. It is carefully presented to the council so that it seems that it was their own idea.
Check www.thenewspaper.com to understand the mechanics of this scam. It plays out everywhere that these companies prey on the gullible city governments searching for more revenue.

Oh, lovely! A great idea for targeting teen age drivers! The northbound school zone at Mayfield begins and ends in a different place than the southbound zone. It is a scam, and shame on our councilors for even considering it.

As an above the the law citizen of Las Cruces, I should be allowed to speed through intersections and run red lights. Who cares if I T-bone your vehicle and kill you and your family members. It's all about me and doing what I want. Don't do anything to prevent me from speeding through school zones, why should your child be protected? WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN ABOVE IS HOW I FEEL A LOT OF LAS CRUCES RESIDENTS THINK.AS I DRIVE AROUND LC, I SEE HOW PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO ALTER THEIR LICENSE PLATES SO THE NUMBERS & LETTERS ARE HARDLY LEGIBLE. PERSONALLY,I OBEY THE LAWS, SO I AM NOT SCARED OF THE RED LIGHT CAMERAS OR POLICE.IF YOU ARE THE PERSONS I DESCRIBE ABOVE, YOU ARE THE REASON FOR THE RED LIGHT CAMERAS!

I fully support installing these cameras IN SCHOOL ZONES, where flashing yellow lights and signs indicate, "School Zone 15mph." They should come attached to the School Zone sign, BUT, they should be city owned. We can build a 30 million dollar city hall, but not our own traffic enforcement camera system? There has to be some other way to do this, without giving Redflex 50% of the cash. Redflex has to go. Isn't there some company in NM that does this stuff? If not, someone create one...

I think people who speed through the school zones are some of the most deserving people of tickets on the planet.

Serously? why incur the cost of installing those cameras when WE as TAXPAYING CITIZENS have provided a POLICE officer and SEVERAL WORTHLESS security guards at each and every school. If they'd get off their deadasses and do SOMETHING constructive for their pay we wouldn't have speeders and cell phone users in school zones. Whomever designed the school zone for Mayfield was braindead. I have seen with my own eyes how well everyone drives when there is an OFFICER sitting in the MIDDLE of the road. What is sadder is people who just can't OBEY the laws despite ALL the cameras. Did you all know you are NOT suppose to pass and overtake the car next to you in a school zone? Do you UNDERSTAND what that means? Probaby not so I will inform you, seeins how I see it being done EVERY single day. You CANNOT let the front end of YOUR vehicle PASS the front end of the vehicle next to you(That's passing and overtaking). You CANNOT change lanes in a school zone..which I see everyday at Mayfields school zone. IF you have children( meaning kids under 18) attending high school, you SHOULD drive by or have a relative drive by and watch your children smoking cigarettes and marijuana next to the school. Or maybe you'll see your CHILD walking AWAY from school after the morning bell has rung.I see a group of a bout 10 boys and girls walking away from school daily. This is WHAT you are raising...LOSERS. Go ahead and use the excuse "I have to work." EXCUSES!,EXCUSES! for raising worthless children. Las Cruces-Land of worthless parents oops baby daddies and baby mommies.

Don't you just support those cameras, JR, because you will be part of the donut raiders soon? The cameras will ensure you can spend time at the donut shop instead of working a school zone issuing tickets. You already sound like a lazy cop in the works.

City Councilman/woman, I do not want to send millions of our city's dollars to Arizona. If you vote to send millions of dollars to Arizona, I will vote to send you home.

Let me get this straight. Since Redflex cites the owner of the vehicle, will the parents of these high school kids violating the law be the ones receiving the citations? Does the parents credit get dinged when the citation goes to collection? What's the point if the parent doesn't have to implicate their child as the driver?

It all really seems pointless and like the beginning of a huge legal mess. So now the city will be using tax payer money to fight all the legal battles that will inevitably be waged.

Great use of public money, Las Cruces!

No. More. Freaking. Cameras.

Redflix is a scam operation that is robbing our city of half of the money they get in fines. The remaining 25% goes to the state, and we get the leftovers.

All from someone doing 36 in a 35 intersection. With no judicial review, no right to challenge, no proper due process at all.

You may want to stop speeders, but this is not the way to do it.

I'm in opposition of more red light cameras. If the City can't receive 100% of the fines issued, what's the point. I don't believe it reduces speeding, it might at those intersections but overall it doesn't truly change a driver's behavior. I would rather Council spend more time on coming up with ideas to improve the quality of life in Las Cruces. Bring more tax revenues to the City by bringing more types of entertainment businesses to Las Cruces (and I don't mean restuarants and hotels, Lord knows we have way too many), I'm talking about a roller rink, amusement park, zoo, botanical gardens, and numerous other things especially for our children (those in middle to high school) who have nothing to do on weekends or after school. Las Cruces quality of life is terrible for the size City it is.

"I'm convinced," Thomas said. "It has changed driver behavior. Of all the residents I've either spoken to or received emails from there has been a high percentage of support. All of the emails I've received had said to me don't back down. I support expanding the program."

PROVE IT! If you are going to spout off evidence of supportive emails which directly impacts a decision then you should be required to post this evidence so all constituents and other non residents of your district can see it Sharon.

Also, Webmaster of the City of Las Cruces, why does your new updated Website not include a public forum for each Council Member to "publically" respond to questions from Constituents on impending initiatives? And also, amazingly enough a public voting on that initiative so that we can see if our representative is voting with the majority of the constituents or just voting the way they want? If this simple addition was added to the Website, the general public would be able to see if the majority of voters are being represented or, if is usually the case, the representative simply votes the way they choose.

Am I the only one who believes a representative of the people is supposed to vote in favor or not in favor of an initiative by the majority of yes or no votes given to them by their constituents?

That is irresponsible to have money grubbing Redflex do a study. Of course they say we need more cameras so they can have more money. This is ridiculous. We need an independent study.

Actually the reason that so many license plates are illegible is that the company who makes them does a terrible job. One of the vehicles that I own has a plate with all the paint coming off. I never touched - scraped it - or abused it in any manner, it is just cheaply made. I also refuse to go purchase a new one when the one I have should last at least 15 - 20 years. Other states do not issue a new plate with each transfer of ownership - and their plates last at least that long.

On another note - We just need to get together and have billboards posted at each end of town announcing the fact that we have illegal speed traps - and only the police get to talk on their cell phones. City council sucks!!!

Put the cameras in, so we can take the Council out. That's or the courts is about the only way we can get back to what I grew up in. A non-government dictated society.

Unrealistic speed limits. Flashing lights. Crossing guards. Now, red light cameras.

Can someone explain why we have come to consider a child's life so precious in the one block around a school but of "lesser" value outside of that zone? Are children getting mowed down in Las Cruces neighborhoods and commercial thoroughfares that do not have 15 MPH speed limits, flashing lights, crossing guards....or red light cameras?
