USPS should close down and contract with UPS and FedEx. They do a better job, are more efficient and extremely timely with their deliveries. Uncle Sam's mail system is long overdue to be put out to pasture.
Think about it people, the USPS already delivers the last mile for packages shipped via UPS (ie shipments from Amazon.com ). UPS won't deliver to every house in America because they don't want to because it would cost to much for them to do so. UPS drivers are also represented by a union, the Teamsters and make as much as USPS letter carriers if not more.

The USPS business model should be called "Manage for Failure". Even in times when the postal service is losing money high ranking managers still receive bonuses for making their goals which are nothing but fudged numbers that are manipulated starting with the front line supervisor and up.

USPS management is trying to build the business with new postal products and services ie Flat rate priority boxes, partnering with Hallmark to sell greeting cards with postage on the envelopes etc, but until the do away with bonus base management, things wont change.

My husband is a mail carrier and enjoys his work and the people he delivers to. It would be nice to hear someone appreciative of his service to the public. All of you ignorant judgmental critics don't even know the facts of how the system works and that the workers just follow the procedures of their workplace. I hope bad karma catches up to you all who are quick to judge and put hardworking families out of work without a thought to the people who have invested many years serving you. For all your thanks. Don't worry. Someday it's going to be YOUR job because everyone is dispensible these days and someday they are going to replace YOU without a second thought....I just can't believe how uncompassionate people are these days..
Its not the carriers who are the problem, its the idiots running the program that are.

Often times I get mail that is suppose to go to my neighbors. Occasionally I get mail for someone who lives in another part of town. Many times I get bills just a day before they are due. When we had our little snow storm, we did not get any mail until Monday, and our mailbox was very full.
I try not to complain, I try to be friendly with people. The post office workers really try my patients with their rudeness.

Out of the three that make up the "posse", one was removed from the main office to the carrier annex. This nut job train wreck can man-handle six employees and keep the job.
The need to rift management was a long time ago.

I just know I heard all kinds of horror stories about how Lagretta would wield her "power." I am very happy for all the postal carriers, that the witch is gone.

The postal service delivers packages paid to UPS at UPS prices and they could be paying less USPS (postal service) prices and still any which way the USPS worker delivers it. I wish people would compare the prices of USPS (postal service) and UPS, there is a huge difference.

I wish some of these customers that complain could deliver mail for one day and see how hard a job it is to work with a manager breathing down their neck telling them you have to make it back within this much time, and the carrier is trying his best to do his job knowing he has a lot of mail and is trying to get back in the allotted time. I bet the customers that complained if they would have to work under these conditions would just throw up their arms and quit. You need to look into the salaries of upper management, you would be amazed. Management is the post office's failure.

USPS needs to stop hiring all these old geezers who cant lift a box or walk to mailboxes or to someone's door. Our mail deliverer puts slips (sorry we missed you) even when we are home!!!! Just pure laziness of getting out of your truck and walking up to a door.
did you ever try and deliver in 6 inches of snow or have an aggresive dog waiting for you on the front porch?

You guys are talking about UPS Mailing innovations and DHL mailing services. There is no reason to use these services except that they provide a company the service of mailing their packages through the USPS system with a better tracking service than the post office. I hate mailing innovations they are slower than regular UPS service, but cheaper. It is the worst of both worlds. You get very good tracking service until the USPS gets your package. The problem USPS is having does not really have anything to do with their services, but the direct interference by companys and the government on the local level. Return to Sender is a tool to destroy the Post Office. These people know where these addresses are but refuse to deliver the packages because they are not 911 addresses. This is the worst violation of the law being forced on the USPS by the local government. The attempt to regulate speech by the government is illegal, and because of this the government has decided to use the USPS to do it for them. The USPS is a division of the federal government and it is also illegal for them to attempt to regulate speech. The problem presented by this attempt to circumvent the law is that by them forcing the USPS to do it they have a grey area that can be managed. They are both pointing fingers at each other and while they are breaking the law and violating peoples civil rights they are inadvertantly destroying our economy and the trust of the USPS patrons. In other words the problems that USPS is having are somewhere in the management side and not with the people who actually deliver the mail. I have actually witnessed a postal delivery person being harassed while delivering the mail by his post master. He actually trespassed on private property to hide from the delivery agent in order to try to catch him smoking in his car. And to top things off, he had a non-postal employee in his truck to act as a witness in case he caught him smoking. And yes, this gentleman is still the post master here. I wish the USPS would simply go back to delivering the mail and quit playing games within itself and with its patrons. These studies only cost money and are very seldom of any value. Stop the games and deliver the mail.

Something needs to change, and fast. I don't know if this is the right move but the current way is not working. End Saturday delivery would be a great start. Fire employees who do nothing but collect a check and benefits. Mandatory drug testing for all postal employees. Charge companies who spew out junk mail more to have it delivered. Do random checks on employee performance as a number of them are just not doing their jobs.

My complaint:Our mail carrier delivers the wrong mail to our box almost daily. I've had packages and mail never arrive so I imagine they went to someone else's box and that person didn't think they needed to send it back. Recently some prescription meds from the VA pharmacy disappeared (would like to have seen the thief when he found out the pills were cholesterol medication and won't get you high!!!). I've complained to the post office and the result was a sarcastic remark from the carrier about me trying to get him trouble ( and he brought me the wrong mail that very day!!!)

El Paso can't keep power supplied to Las Cruces...how in the heck can they be expected to deliver mail efficiently?
A relative who works in a Las Cruces post office says that the El Paso sorting facility has persistent issues with holding mail when it's not convenient to send it along to post offices in the region, to outright loss/destruction of "junk mail." It got so bad a while back the head of the El Paso sorting center was in danger of getting canned.

Given the inside information, I suspect consolidation is a very bad idea.

I have a great deal of respect for you and have such great memories of waiting for the "mailman" to bring an anticipated letter or package. But we also remember the telegraph and western union carriers the same way. How about the bread truck and the milkman? It's time for a reality check. We don't need advertising junk delivered to our homes every day.

Does not seem to be the case.
congress needs to fire the lazy overpaid union postal workers, hire the migrant workers to deliver our mail, otherwise our postal service will not survive in today's enonomy.
