I know and have ties to both families, and I feel for them deeply. They both have lost a son.

Maybe all the ones you associated with. I have a different point of view. I am blessed to work with many of the youth and they are wonderful people. I will say alcohol is a BIG problem but every society has it's issues. What are you doing to teach kindness?

Dustin Pesewonit, that name caused me nightmares during my middle school years. He would follow me down the halls and make fun of me, push me around, I rather not be in the same room or even close to him.Believe it or not I learned to forgive him as time went by. Years passed and I married and had 3 precious kids and really understood the meaning of true love. I ran into Dustin @ Walmart a few weeks before he passed, he went out of his way to say hello to me. I responded with affection, the day I read in the paper he had passed I sat at my computer at work and cried, eventually my boss told me to go home.Im glad I had forgiven him for all he did to me, i know we were kids and sometimes dont know better. RIP Dustin!

14 years for that kind of brutality! That is very concerning for our community, both Ruidoso and Mescalero. I am not sure that a person who commited a crime a evil as that should even be allowed to interact with society again. If I am not mistaken that wasn't the only incident where he commited that type of violence; at least two years before he had the chance to murder, he commited another serious crime as a juvenile. He nearly killed another teanager by stabbing him. A person like this, who has committed this much violence against another living, breathing human should not be allowed to live amongst us.

Not all of us are mena people. I am not sure who you associated yourself with, but I would encourage you to meet people like me who are respectful, kind and loving! I don't doubt that there are mean people in our community, but I am sure there a bitter people in all areas of the US, even in Rapid City, SD.

This trips me out I pray for both families. what got to me the most is the way the mother blamed society for her boy's violent behavior, remember morals are started at home, and the mother don't have a whole lot to say about her but she also has her priorties all mixed up too. This boy Buster was a cool little dude and thought he had a lot going for him I think he lost control while he was drunk and did something that he will never be able to take back. I barely met Dustin a few months before his fatal accident and I thought he was fun loving and cool, and I'm sorry for his family. I remember when Joe stabbed that young boy on the highway and our former tribal president defended him in court and he got away with it, Mescalero has a kangaroo court you could do anything and get away with it, look at the two girls that got away with hit and run they took a life and are still walking around like it's not a big deal. Our Tribal president needs to concentrate on or criminal justice here on the Rez or appoint someone to do it.

YOu are so right. Our judicial system here in Mescalero is a joke. Many of our judges do not have any qualifications and they do favors for family. Our own tribal council has a member who committed murder years ago and has a son who murdered another young man in cold blood a few years back and has yet another son who stole money that could have amounted to 30+ K by selling hunts under the table to non Mescalero residents. And this man is on our council making decisions for our tibe. He can't even keep himself or his own in line. We need stipulations and requirements on those who run for office and those who sit as judges. Until we raise our expectations of our leadership it will never change. I have also seen the two women who puposely ran over Diane around like nothing ever happened . It is time we take a stand and hold people accountable. And yes it does start in the home.

I keep hoping that our Tribal President will do something about all the crime on our Rez. I think he made a right choice in hiring a tribal member as chief judge Aaron Choneska I hear he has a lot of smarts well lets see what he will do and if there will be any significant changes. I hear a lot of negativity about our people and our government and I hope this will also change.

I'm glad you have forgiven him, but honestly I knew Dustin all of his life and never saw him do anything like this to anyone.

Well from what I understand the BIA did a warrant sweep tonite here in Pena and my niece was tossed in for an old warrant. Didn't want to see this happen to her but at least now this will be taken care of and then she won't have to mess with this. There are a few houses that the police stopped at.

You know what is crazy, I had a run in with the mother of Joe at the round bar and she was intoxicated and started laying hints and talking loud about nothing then her woman beater boyfriend got involved and was trying to start a fight between us telling me to go and fight out in the parking lot to see who is the bigger woman, sorry but I'm better than that I have nothing to prove to anyone not even to a "chump" like HIM. What I wrote here is my opinion doesn't mean it's true and I am intitled to my own opinion. A judge was offended by my comment too about our court system, I thought judges are suppose to be mature and educated, hopefully I never have to go before her she will more than likely use this against me!!! You should use all the negativity and turn it to positive instead of becoming bitter, you are not the only one that makes up the court, but like they say "if the shoe fits". Hopefully our new chief judge will make some positive changes with all the education and training he has and get rid of the ones that thrive on getting even with individuals that apparently put them down, crazy. I am not perfect by any means just a peon arguing an issue, it's a good thing we don't live in the Middle East I would have had my head chopped off, YES GOOD OLE AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE!!
