"When we shut barbecuing and grilling and stuff down, that does not mean that somebody can come in and light off a firework because they feel entitled when they purchase fireworks to use them," Vincent said. "And I can assure you, if I ban fireworks on a 20-day proclamation, and we find somebody lighting fireworks off, I promise you we will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law."
Hope this applies to your family and relatives also since you have now appointed yourself as the the poster boy for fireworks prohibition. Your hypocrisy is sickening Mr. Fire Chief.

In this town your post seems to hit upon the number one thing wrong. Ruidoso has declined in the last ten years or so and here's the main reason- hypocrites and liars in charge of the different agencies in our government. I have major trust issues with just about all who are in charge... from the entire village council, village manager, mayor, fire department and even the Chamber. Way too much nepotism goes on here plus along with the special favors, officials overlooking things that need fixing and making bad decisions (usually in their own or Hubbard's best interests) which basically cost the citizens of this community big money. In the judicial system, we have an ineffective prosecutor and a very lax judge causing crimes to go either unpunished or given punishment so meager it is laughable. We have some bad people here and some bad things are going on. We don't need to coddle these lowlifes, we need to rid this town of them. Clear out the druggies, their dealers, the wife beaters, the child abusers, the illegals, etc. I feel sorry for our law enforcement personnel here. They no sooner arrest a criminal and he's released back onto the street. This has always been a lovely town - scenic and serene with gracious and friendly residents. It's a shame about the drought. It's a shame about the bark beetles killing our giant Ponderosa Pines. No doubt, we have a need for intelligent, innovative free thinkers who will strive to fix the infrastructure here, improve upon current conditions and plan a productive and viable future for Ruidoso. With one or two possible exceptions, we are widely missing the mark.

WOW, we can't or won't stop fireworks so how in this world or any other does anyone think that this area/State could clean up any of these other problems??? The corruption runs deep and wide in this State and this town. Never going to clean this up....

The folks at Thriftway asked me to make a donation to the fire department today as I checked out. I thought this was the responsibility of municipal government, to fund our non-volunteer fire department? I told them I would not contribute to a house of porn...not a cent more than they get through our hefty tax rate in this city.

Putting business before public safety (as the Mayor was quoted in this article) should not be a foreign concept to the VOR. That is exactly what the VOR did about serious and well documented fire code violations at a Mexicali restaurant in mid town two years ago.
