Houghton Lake Tip Up Town in jeapordy

A long running winter carnival could be close to the end if community members don't step in.

Community members might just be sick of the drunkenness, the injuries, the arrests and the deaths that have been associated with "wonderful" Tip Up Town. The only ones who might benefit from such shenanigans are the retailers and of course, the bars. I guess it's up the them, not the citizens to pitch in. I would like to see it eliminated, and so would many others.

Well,t hat is too bad that YOU feel that way. There are thousands who love snowmobiling, the events and people. It is not all about drunken partying. Go somewhere else if you do not like it.

I agree about tip up town be nothing but a druken shenanigans- TIP UP TOWN was suppose to be a family thing- WELL- WHAT HAPPENED- It seems it all for the adults - I understand it was to bring tourist in and stuff but the little guys are being left out. Oh sure they have prizes for the kiddie games- if you can call them prizes. A person can go to the dollar store and get better stuff. You want to improve TIP UO TOWN- start there and then work on getting the tourist up here. The people- young and old should be first because that is what keeps the community going aand then the tourists should come next on the list. Think about it!!!!!!!

wow...i cant believe what i am hearing. when i was a kid we looked forward to tip up town. it was fun and the whole family enjoyed. from what i understand the whole town has changed a lot and not for the best either. i moved away back in 95 and my family still resides there. it would be nice to see the family thing come back to tip up town. thats what you get from a wet town.

Drunken Shenanigans are part of life folks! Rosco County economy needs TUT. It is pitiful to see the event threatened every year. I continue to participate every year, from a drunken fool years ago, to a proud parent and volunteer today. There are areas all over the lake for EVEYONE to enjoy this event. Prudenville and Houghton Lake need to shut up and get it done before someone else on the lake begins to capitalize on the event.

2008 was a beautiful event, the best in 5 years. I will bring my kids next year, every year, when they get of age I hope they get drunk in the bars I did, when they get settled I hope they bring their kids, when they get my age I hope they fish in a shanty!
