Merrimac Board of Selectmen choose to Outsource Town Departments

I attended last night's "informational" meeting in Merrimac held by the Selectmen to discuss their plan to contract the services of the town's Water Department. The only problem - they forgot to bring their information! They offered no specifics when asked what this would cost the town. They said the first few years it would be break even cost.(not so break even for the employees who are out of a pension)

What is this all about? Briefly, and in my opinion, this is a vindictive act on the part of the Selectmen because they cannot get along with the personalities of the Water Dept. In fact, the same can be said for the Sewer Dept as well, because they are currently working on their plan to outsource that as well. My inside sources tell me the Board's relationship with the Light Dept has become estranged at best.

We need to stop and ask ourselves - what is this Board doing to our town? Merrimac residents need to unite and begin speaking up to this Board that has managed to turn town hall and the town department's into a dysfunctional family.
