Cops: Littering ticket leads to drug charge for passenger

A backseat passenger was arrested on a drug charge Tuesday in Merrick after an officer approached a parked car to give the driver a ticket for littering, police said.

Marijuana is an inexpensive way to cure GI issues, eye problems, pain, anxiety, and many more common ailments. The problem is that if the government legalized it, the pharmaceutical companies would lose a TON of money...money needed for research and cures.
MJ is so much safer than alcohol. When it comes to health problems caused by alcohol, drunk driving, poor judgement while drinking, etc... MJ is a MUCH SAFER choice than alcohol.
I know I will now be attacked because at the end of the day, pot's illegal..and I get it, but it's dumb.

The cop wanted to check out the driver and needed "probable cause". A minor violation like littering gives him an excuse.

This ia cop with nothing better to do than break some guys ball$ for smokin a J. The littering was a BS to break his ball$.

If these cops have so much time on their hand maybe they should have saved that poor New Cassels girls life but no that would have been actual work.

Nice reading and writing skills. Obviously you've smoked a few too many Js. He had a 'large' bag according to the article. "Who is he hurting?" you ask. What's to say the driver wasn't going to partake and therefore be putting other drivers at risk.
The littering alone is a nuisance to society. Dirtbags like this sit around doing whatever they please, bringing the value of the whole neighborhood down and disrupting the sense of community. I applaud the cop for doing a fine job.
This all took place at 6:20pm when there are children out and about in this middle class neighborhood. What a fine example this guy is setting for anyone who may happen by. We'll just send all the pot-heads to your house from now on and see if you like them hanging out on your street, dumping their trash on your lawn.

Do you know that at 6pm everyday your children can walk into any convenience store and be in the presence of alcohol? Do you want to look the stats up of how many people are killed on LI each week in marijuana related accidents vs. drunk driving? Clean your lawn if you live in a trashy area. Littering is not a problem by me.
