My thoughts and prayers are with the Stroker / Coppola family. The justice system has failed them miserably. I doubt Mr. Gottlieb would consider the plea deal "absolutely appropriate and fair" if it were his daughter who was killed. Hopefully, the DWI bill signed by Gov. Spitzer creating the new crime of vehicular homicide with stiffer prison terms of up to 25 years will stop these slap on the wrist sentences like the one Justice Mullen doled out to Mr. Flynn. However, if the police department fails to conduct investigations, as they did in this case, all of these legislative efforts will be for nothing. How is it that the suffolk county police department can get away with failing to conduct an investigation in which there was a fatality? Something smells rotten. The Stroker / Coppola family deserves an answer.

The article does say that the police couldn't have access to Flynn's blood-test results, owing to a legal loophole. He didn't walk because the police were unwilling to investigate.

Aside from the ridiculously small sentence, I love this story. A drunk driver and greedy lawsuit-hound shooting himself in the foot so spectacularly.

Mr. Gottliebs daughter may have better judgement than to be bar hopping or whatever the hell they were doing and getting in a car with someone who had been drinkg.

This isnt a case of A drunk Driver hitting a pedestian, these were two consenting people willingly getting behind the wheel knowing alchol at some point in the night would be involved. They played with fire and got burned.

This family wont be happy until they cash in all over the board I wouldnt be surprised if these opportunist go after the store they bought beer at or the bar they may have been at.

And in regards to the police they are probably the worst offenders of DWI's only they get off all the time. So there will always be some loop holds with punishment to protect the drunk cops
