I have a 22 year old son who made some bad choices when he was 18 or 19. He is on probation for drug substance & concealed weapon. He also has a 3 year old son that he want to be a good example. He now realize the mistakes he's made hanging with the wrong crowd. Is there any trade schools or jobs out there for people seeking a second chance to prove to themselves they can be someone of important in society? I watch those shows on tv, but I realize we need something like that in Kansas City, Mo. Can you please help a mother who knows her son's sincerity and him to be proud of himself. Thanks

If someone has any answers or can point me in a direction of a job it would be appreciated. After being released I earned my undergraduate and graduate degree and have had only one traffic ticket (after 9 years). The problem is I don't care where I look the "background" question just keeps eliminating me from jobs worth anything (and even less) and it is really tearing me up inside. I guess if you have 677 misdemeanors that is ok but have one felony for stealing and your life is ruined forever and considered a terrible person....for life. See as you can read it is a life sentence and anyone in society that says it isn't is either a liar, a fool or just completely ignorant of what goes on in people's lives. The fact remains there just isn't a five year sentence to your crime that is a complete lie...no the truth is you have to face it every day for the rest of your life and society has it set up for you to fail for the rest of your life. Does anyone have any ideas for me please? I have very good talents and abilities and am a hard worker...thanks in advance for your help.
I agree that you pay for your mistake for the rest of your life if you have committed a felon. This is America. Where is the justice in this situation. You serve the time and after your release, society and the system continue to punish you. There is no end. I just want the chance to take care of myself in a productive manner and not feel rejected day after day. I made a mistake, paid the price and still living the down trodden life. We need help. We need for our system to let us be free once we have paid our debts and have not committed any more crimes. God forgives, why can't man?

I dont understand why this is so hard to understand for felons. As an employer, I have the choice to hire whoever I want. I have stacks of people applying. If someone has a felony conviction, it means at one point they were willing to commit a serious offense. There are plenty of "clean" candidates out there, and I am perfectly willing to toss an application in the trash if it has that black mark on it. Who's to say you wont commit a felony at my business, where I will have to pay money and time to rectify your mistake. Start your own businesses is my best advice.
