When I lived in Nampa during the 1980's, there was a man that all of children were afraid of and it was rumored that he was an alien. Of course this was just a child's horror stories, but at the time, we were terrified. This man wore blue overalls, had a shaved head and walked all over town carrying empty milk cartons without ever talking to anyone. He lived in an ordinary neighborhood, but his house was burried up to the roof and had barbed wire all around the yard. I would like to know if anyone knows what ever happened to this man and what his story was. Does anyone else remember him? What became of him? Please tell me, I have wondered since I was 10 years old.

I can give you a few details. The gentleman's name was Morris Stanke, and while he was definitely eccentric, he was neither an alien or a monster. Inside his "compound', with the barbed wire strung all over to keep people out, he said that he had various molds growing as part of his efforts to moderate and control the weather. He slept inside a station wagon that was parked inside the fence, next to the metal building that contained his experiments. At one time, he worked for the PFE shops or a railroad connected job. He died some years ago, and the lot was cleared for new construction. He had been interviewed on several TV programs, and had been the subject of newspaper articles.

Thank you Victor B for responding to my questions. It is sad that after all of these years I remember only the unusual details about Mr. Stanke. Thanks to you I can now see that our childhood tales were nothing but make believe that unfortunately may have contributed to his status as an outcast. I can only hope that he lived a happy life.

Me and my brother Billy lived right across the street from Morris Stanke. He was always very nice to us and we would bring him plates of food during Thanksgiving and Christmas for many years. That was over 20 years ago. I was telling my kids about him and they didn't believe me.
We heard all sorts of rumors, finally when we got in out teens we would actually have conversations with him.

I used to know Richard P. Stanke in Bruneau, Idaho as a child (about 45 yrs ago). He was originally from Nampa I know and he had some type of clerk job in the military. He used to sit on a hill top above my small town of Bruneau serenading us with his saxophone. He had almost a photographic memory for dates, was very eccentric. He worked at BSU as a janitor/yards keeper. Also worked at Titan Missile base in the Bruneau desert. Any info on what happened to him?

I grew up In Nampa and we always would see him running in slow motion down 12th ave road and driving his truck. We would always drive by his house late at night for a good scare! And we would see him hiding behide his fence looking out at everybody. People in Nampa called him the "MOON MAN" And I think he lived just off of 12 ave rd on Florida by Mercy Medical. And they found him in his Car frozen one winter day.

No, his house was flatened long ago. I can't remember the exact location now, everything has changed so much. SOmewhere near McDonald's on 12th. The kids who lived across the street from him would know what street it was on. And talk about "urban legends", who remembers the old barn out on 12th avenue that supposedly was a haunt of the local "Devil-worshippers" years ago? Supposedley there was blood all over inside from sacrifeces, rumored to be human. Oh and lets not forget the "Lady of the Lake" out at Gott's point. Anyone ever see her? I have.

He was on the TV program 'Real People'in the 80's.The host of the show said it smelled bad around there but I am sure he was smelling 'Armours'.The Mold Man used to run around town in slow motion and he believed he controlled electric storms.

Did he live off of Lonestar? My Aunt lived out there, and I seem to remember a house that fits this description being right across the street from hers.

NAME: Morris M. Stanke 1211 S Locust St,
BIRTH: 18 Mar 1918
DEATH: 6 Nov 1993 - Nampa, Canyon, Idaho, USA
This is the story of one of three hermits who lived in a two block radius in the early 1970's the other two died around 1973, one was also a wwII Vet as was Mr. Stanke. There is so much that we who lived on Locust St. could tell it could fill a book with interesting accounts. I am here to give facts. As recorded on an old style VHS-C that I had the foresight to give to my mom and her husband who recorded the demolition of 1211 locust in the spring of 1993 the year of my son's birth, a busy spring for me! So to the TEN THOUSAND DOALLAR Q;what was really inside the barbed wire fortress. Us kids were asked daily ,"Hey kid come here ,whats in there? silver'71' vega, canoe, all the balls that I would throw inside if they were someone elses!an 1978 IMC Scout redish orange/white. I remember the day he brought the new scout home I watched as he stripped the stickers off the windows and proceded to gutt the vehicle down to just a driver seat so that he could live inside just as he had lived in the vega.Economy bomb shelters were designed in a literal Z pattern this stops the gamma rays and accounts for the wrecking balls time on site!A 1950'S 10x40 est. Mobile home was under corrugated shack that was acessible by a door in the corrugated structure. The experiments he spoke of were derived for the camera 'Real People'.Sadly the canisters containing REAL PEOPLE ARCHIVES were lost due to heat in skip barbers garage R.I.P. as per his son in an e-mail.We had cars from every state coming to our street during that time lined up to 12th ave.&HOLLEY st.(that spelling is for you BillyGoat) Ok inside and under the M/H as per the video there were;Macaroni, dried beans, hamburger helper and five cases of peanut butter that was stored in the compartments under the trailer. There were also six new pair of blue coveralls, like he always wore, extra rubber boots and underwear. One of the tractor drivers told of when he walked into the shed and saw someone standing way in the back of it. It gave him quite a start until he realized he was looking at his own image in a full length mirror. The demolition crew thought it would take only a few days, instead of the six weeks or more, to tear all the barbed wire down and haul the logging chains and the dirt away, until they found that the dirt covered a mobile home within the shed. When they got through with most of that, there was still the concrete bomb shelter that had been constructed around 1955-60 that took at least another week of pounding with a wrecking ball to break it up into small enough pieces to be lifted into dump trucks and to be trucked away.

who couldn't remember "stinky stanke"? I had nightmares of the guy for years! The only thing between his barbed wire bunker and my house growing up was the forest- no solace there, it was just as terrifying . Sad now it's all gone :( like the song goes " they paved paradise and put up a parking lot".
