wow, that seems like a brilliant idea to have an inmate crew rounding up papers with social security numbers, names and addresses, as well as bank statements and tax returns i am sure.

I don't know what is more shocking; the papers being unsecure or the fact that the sheriff had inmates packing the personal information. The prisoners are not people who have been known to have been trustworthy nor law-abiding. It is too bad that I am not a resident of Arapahoe County because I would love to lead a recall of somebody who is so short sighted and unconscious of personal security to allow inmates access to identities and social security numbers.

Hi,
Why does the Sheriff not go to the owner of the building and simply ask who was evicted ? |
with all of the id theft coming from prisons, was an inmate crew the best choice for cleaning up this mess?

I think someone should find out exactly what company those papers belonged to. A mortgage company runs credit checks on people for personal loans. That credit check paperwork has peoples legal names, social security numbers, monthly income, employer information, as well as address information. More than enough for someone to open a credit card or perhaps even apply for a home loan under someone else's credit. I think you would do a great service by letting the name of the company be known so anyone that might have used this company can be sure to keep a better eye on their credit report in the months to come.

I had to look at your website to learn that nobody knows who the business is...you have probably started a small panic for other viewers who watched the story and thought - why didn't they say who the company was??? The fact that the business name was not known should have been explained better on the broadcast. Love the HD - keep Kehe on the hunt for good photog stories.

Eric - I am a resisdent of Arapahoe and it really doesn't matter where you live, mortgage companies buy and sell their loans everyday - this could affect hundreds of people no matter where you are. |

An inmate crew picked up social security numbered documents? And why should a crew of inmates be trusted with highly sensitive personal material? Does someone not think that inmates have brains who could potentially remember social security numbers, addresses, names for a very long time (perhaps longer than the individual who allowed them to pick up the documents)? Perhaps the chickens in the hen house are not secure from the owner?

The owner, David Shamansky, of Jordan West Company, the tenant, filed for bankruptcy on March 6, 2007, case number 07-11893 ABC.

They had INMATES pack up the documents?!? What about some deputies who at least would be less likely to sell the info to make some money
They had an inmate crew clean up????!!!!?? With all the personal information contained within?? What was the sheriff thinking?
Couldn't they at least provided an address of the evicted company, so those who are doing business with companies in the area don't have to panic and wonder if its their company?
Have to agree that using inmates to gather up sensitive data was seriously lacking in judgement. |

sorry - didn't see the comment with the name of the mortgage company. thanks!

If the sheriff had guards watching over the inmates as they picked up all the papers, what's the harm? They might as well do some type of work while they're in jail. There was probably a bigger chance of things being stolen while the documents were laying there for most of the day unattended. |

Good thing a bunch of illegals didn't come upon these papers before they were picked up....or maybe they did

Why would a low security risk inmate be anymore of a problem picking up the documents than some guy driving by the building? The guards wouldn't have put up with any going through the papers from the inmates. Get a clue. The company who left them out are the ones to blame.

WHO did they hire to secure this sensitive information? Did they say INMATES? I guess I wouldn't have devoted more than that one sentence to put that little shocker out there. I would be interested in what those inmates were in jail for. Larceny, Burglary, Theft........? Hmmm....
REMEMBER THAT NAME. A fine and responsible business owner indeed...... |

Who was the mortgage company that was evicted? Why would anyone allow prison inmates pick up those sensitive papers giving them access to others social security numbers? Knowing they were picked up after being out all day and then picked up by prison inmates is not at all comforting. Some of us need to know the mortgage company to determine if we gave them our info when shopping for mortgage loans??!?!!!!!!
