A known fact is that the chlorine from the pool eats the building up and rusts the metal lockers. I agree the kids need a nice building to get a good education and something they can be proud to show off but I say bury the pool and see how much that saves on the renovation I'm sue you need. The next step I would do is fire the maintance staff and hire one that is going to do the proper upkeep.

''' the school will become more of a laughing-stock than it already is'''

Well boo hoo peacock! Seems that you got through it well enough the way it is. Education is the object not a show piece for your ego!

You don't pay taxes here, you don't work here! Yet you demand us to pay more than necessary and affordable. Not going to happen!

Education is about maximizing the possibilities for students to take advantage of...not minizing their chances of future success like you advocate.

P.S.
A peacock? Is that all you got? That shows some real sophistication on you part.

"UR" does not seem to be proper English, but I'll let it fly.

Anyway, John man...you're the one w/o substance. I mean how is saying an education w/as much possibilities given to children as possible, lacks substance? It's a fact and reasonably conceived.

Your post does nothing but verify zetetic's previous remarks about your character and your inability to address the point at hand.

Kindly,
T-Mac

A valid point about the chlorination system, Little Joe, and it's too bad the board members of the past didn't think more like you. But, remember that the chlorine filtration system will be replaced in the renovation, and *should* be replaced with a non-chlorine system. There are lots of new alternatives that do not use corrosive or dangerous materials, consume less power and are much cheaper to maintain.

If the renovation is correctly planned, the significantly lower operating costs will make the pool worth keeping.

Same topic, new thread
Seems like we've been debating the samethings over and over again...
Well it seems to me that a lot of people still seem to be adopting the "Let's show our displeasure w/the current school administration, and vote no to referendum because money was not well-managed in the past.
Well, ladies, gentleman, thats the wrong stance to take. Sure, most of you cannot look beyond what the new tax rates will be, but let's be honest. Say you made a mistake in the past, like you got a parking violation ticket. Now according to your logic, that would mean that you should no longer be able or have the right to drive.
So you see, your "punishing of the board" by voting no to referendum, just serves no ideal purpose. Sure, the board does not get the funds. But honestly, people, who does that really hurt? I'm sure the board members do not have to drink the water on a daily, consistent basis or use the pathetic facilities that you claim to be adequate and satisfied with. That's right it does not hurt them in the least, but guess who it does...the CHILDREN of the district. I mean the audacity of some just to look and only see the 'ol mighty and corrupt dollar, in front of everything else. It's obvious to see where your priorities rank.
And why not sports? Sports help keep kids in shape and off the street. Let's step back for a moment. Quick, think of all the productive things to do in Mercersburg during the evening....can't think of anything? I'm not surprised, because there are not a whole lot of good programs in place or places to go. Honestly, athletics provides a means to allow children to learn the importance of teamwork in addition to what they learn in the classroom, all the while allowing them to participate in productive activities.
Besides, eventually, this project will need to be done in one shape of form or another. Why not go ahead and start to build it now, rather than waiting for developmental and construction costs to go up or when we are forced to b/c of the state or another agency becoming involved. Why not show the initiative and resolve to solve this issue once and for all, in order to provide our children with the best education possible beginning now, not 10-20 yrs later, with hundreds missing out on the potential benefits of this referendum.
Now all I have to do is wait for belittled John's stupid, non-insightful comments to come my way...
You said it, but then again you are from Washington, D.C. I was a student at James Buchanan, but left because of the poor quality of people, amoung other things. Anyways, right on.
